January 7, 201016 yr My standards are extremely high. Test 1: Say the name. Alomar, yes. McGwire, yes. Test 2: If you have to make a case for a player, they do not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, imo.

Not sure how I would vote if it counted on the steroid era players.

I never consider steroids. I think a majority of the players were on something and there is no fair way to determine how much it helped or hurt a guy or the game itself. On Dawson, I have to sit around and put together numbers and make a case for the guy to be in the Hall of Fame. If I have to put in a lot of thought to a guy being in the Hall, he does not belong in my Hall. I cannot tell you how many wins/losses Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens have, but I know they should be in Cooperstown. I do not know how many hits/homeruns/RBIs Griffey Jr. has, but I know he should be in Cooperstown. Considering it has taken nearly a decade for Dawson to get in, I am still baffled as to what put him over the edge this past year. Some of it I believe is an indictment of the steroid era that came after Dawson and believing he did everything natural, and some of it comes from the corky voting setup. Dawson was a tremendous player, just not in my Hall of Fame.
