I think they either are or they aren't. Like the two or three guys that didn't vote for Rip and Gwynn...silly to me. If you don't vote for them the first time, why vote for them later?
January 8, 201016 yr Not at all. I never consider steroids. I think a majority of the players were on something and there is no fair way to determine how much it helped or hurt a guy or the game itself. On Dawson, I have to sit around and put together numbers and make a case for the guy to be in the Hall of Fame. If I have to put in a lot of thought to a guy being in the Hall, he does not belong in my Hall. I cannot tell you how many wins/losses Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens have, but I know they should be in Cooperstown. I do not know how many hits/homeruns/RBIs Griffey Jr. has, but I know he should be in Cooperstown. Considering it has taken nearly a decade for Dawson to get in, I am still baffled as to what put him over the edge this past year. Some of it I believe is an indictment of the steroid era that came after Dawson and believing he did everything natural, and some of it comes from the corky voting setup. Dawson was a tremendous player, just not in my Hall of Fame. Fair enough on the steriod issue. I still don't really know how I feel about it if I had a vote. If I didn't take it into consideration then I would have McGwire in too I guess. I still like Dawson, he would be in mine. I grew up loving Larkin, and I just don't know if he gets my vote.
January 9, 201016 yr McGwire, Raines, Lee Smith, Larkin and Mattingly for sure. I could be convinced of 1 or 2 more, but those guys would definitely get my vote.
