January 5, 201016 yr How do you know all of this? We'll just say that "I'm buddies with Barney Kroger".
January 6, 201016 yr New store plans (these are 6 months old...the gas station on the left-hand side is not a go at this point). Spacer saver idea. How about an extra parking platform on the top of the building with ramp for the cars and an elevator into the store. That big of a place needs parking. Plus it helps beechwood game parking. Ingenious.

It was kind of a pain when it came to construction, but logistically it was really intelligent.

It was kind of a pain when it came to construction, but logistically it was really intelligent. I'm no contractor or anything, but it seems like that would entail a hell of a lot more in construction materials/costs for the building to be able to support a full parking lot. I can't imagine this being a preferred option (because of the cost) unless there was just simply no room for a parking lot, and finding a different, bigger site location was not possible.

Very interesting, I am not sure how all of that works. With drainage requirements there is a heck of a lot engineering and work that goes in to simply putting in a paved lot. At one time it was no big issue, but it is a huge expense to put in a simple parking lot these days. I would imagine those issues would all but be eliminated parking on a roof.
January 6, 201016 yr There's some trade-off in the costs. Storm run-off all has to be "managed" within the bounds of the property it is created on, so there's definitely a savings when you don't have to build a storm water detention system to handle a giant building and a giant parking lot. However, as far as the building is concerned, your structure goes from having to support just a roof to having to support a parking garage. It's a major add in structural costs. At the same time, there are some hefty tax credits that apply from the US Green Building Council for using the building structure for parking instead of paving out a lot for parking. Regardless, I just builds 'em, I don't buy 'em.
February 2, 201016 yr The Fort Mitchell Kroger demo/rebuild is bidding on the 18th. I would assume they'll have the project rolling within a month of the project being awarded to a GC, so attention Kroger shoppers, get ready to frequent Remke's for a while.

You can always come down to the Kroger in Newport and travel up Memorial Parkway. For those in the Fort Mitchell area wasn't their a Grants Department Store at one time? I remember that place as a kid, I think.

Yes, the state, Kroger and the Plaza management Co came to an agreement on a price for more land that was needed. They should start moving the pharmacy into another space in the Plaza within the next few weeks, and demolition is more than likely going to happen by the end of March.

Yes that place was a Grants - wow forgot all about the place, but the name brings back memories of Grant Gravel Grippers shoes - for those of us that could not afford the canvas Converse - grants had their version. They were very popular back in the day

February 2, 201016 yr Heck yeah...I could run faster and jump higher. :walk: That is exactly how the Grants gravel grippers were!
