Derrick Locke... Staying or Leaving?

Featured Replies

A lot of speculation has been going on regarding him leaving early for the NFL.

Before the bowl game he posted on facebook something about how he can't wait to come back for his senior season.

However, this is the latest from him...

“If we don’t get the offense going in the right direction that I want, I could get myself going in the supplemental draft."

If you watched the end of the game, you saw him walking into the locker room with about a minute left as Clemson was kneeling the ball.

Not exactly an ideal situation for the Cats.

It would be a big mistake for him to go now. He can be drafted, but he would go much higher as a senior and have a much better chance of sticking on a teams roster.

I wonder what direction he feels the offense should go. It certainly looks as though he is unhappy with the current offense. Does he feel there should be a change at QB? That is an interesting comment for sure.

By saying he could get himself going in the supplemental draft does that mean he would come back for spring practice, and if he doesn't like the way the offense is headed, he would then make him self available? What is the cut off to make yourself available for the main draft?

I say he goes, which will be a mistake for him.

I wondered who all saw him leaving the field before the game was over and by himself. I thought that was wrong. I thought he played like he was leaving, but talked about how he thought he would be back. I hope he returns for his sake and UK's. He is one my favorites for sure.

The article I read said that he had a young child he may need to take care of. Locke's possibly one injury away from not getting a chance in the NFL so maybe he should go. At least he's relatively healthy right now. He probably wasn't ever going to be a first day pick I wouldn't imagine.

I also wondered about that. It was definitely weird seeing one player walking to the tunnel on his own. I thought it was kind of disrespectful to not only Clemson, but to his own teammates and coaches.

If that is the case, then that would be totally understandable. But I still have a problem with how he left the field last night. I wish him the best either way.

^ I agree.

I was at the game last evening in Nashville. I did not see any player that is worthy of leaving early for NFL play! Including Locke.

I am a fan of the team... but come on. There are plenty of RBs out in the colligiate ranks that are above Locke's level of play right now. His interests would be better served to come back next year... stronger, faster and showing a little more team leadership.

Agreed! Locke has been a little too loose with his lips at time. This time I think his actions spoke loudly. You should never, ever, leave the field before a game is over. It's almost like turning your back on your teammates, not to mention poor sportsmanship toward your opponent. If he comes back, I think an apology would certainly be in order.

I agree. However, if doesn't feel like he can improve his stock any by coming back, then it is time for him to look for a place to play football for a living, wherever that may be.
