Refs call a bad game again!

Featured Replies

I was at the game and the officiating wasn't the best but to their credit there were about 6 people between the 2 fan sections who were on the referees the whole game and they didn't seem to let it bother them. There were less than 100 people in the entire gym so the referees had to hear everything that was directed their way.

I am sure they heard the nonsense coming from idiot parents. That is the problem with sports today the kids usually have sportsmanship but not the parents. We need to break the game tape down and let these parents watch. Or each parent should have to take the officials exam before their kids can play. Ha HA Ha HA. Just kidding. Trust me most of these kids would rather their parents not come to the game as to hear them acting like fools in the stands.

How could these two refs be at 2 different places at the same time? The reffing at the Highlands game was a joke!

Sad...but true.

I have seen some poor officiated games in my day and I would like to say that some refs do a good job but what you guys have to remember is they are paid to do a job. If I do my job bad I get fired. if a ref does his job bad he hears it from the fans. It comes with the territory. Some people in the stands may be idiots, but to classify all parents as idiots is going a little too far. It sounds like you have heard it from a few parents hoopitup25. I do agree with you that some of the stuff people yell from the stands is idiotic but as I said earlier to call all parents idiots is a little offensive to the parents who come to watch their kids play and don't say a thing.

I will disagree here if you mean the Brossart/Highlands game. They let a few travels go and maybe missed a couple but for the most part did a nice job and I was rooting for the team that ended up on the losing side. Too many fans in the stands have no clue about the rules including myself. At one point a Brossart player dove for a loose ball and slid with it a little only to get rid of it to a teammate. I initially thought it was a travel but the ref actually explained to me during a timeout that the player can slide all the way down the floor if he wants as long as he doesn't change position of the ball while sliding its not a violation. I actually as a fan learned something. I heard a few Mustang fans complaining about obvious corect calls and I was somewhat surprised to hear the complaining because their teams lead never really seemed to be in jeopardy and I know those fans have seen a ton of games so it was a little surprising to say the least to hear them make comments about the officiating. For the most part the game was called very fair.

I don't think I have ever seen a ref climb into the stands and explain a call to a fan. haha:D

At HHS, even a fan in the last row, is close enough to the ref, that a man in stripes doesn't need to climb into the stands to talk! :D

As long as the player does not gain control of the ball prior to him going to the floor the above is true.

I was keeping the book and it was during a break in the action. He is a nice guy, very approachable and does a good job. He has done a ton of AAU games my son has played in over the past couple years.

Aint that the truth !!!

I am looking for the thread titled "Great Job by the Refs". Has anyone seen that one?

If my parents acted the way some of these parents act today, I would ask them not to come see me play because it is embarassing. I don't even like to watch a high school anymore because of all the ignorance you hear in the stands. To sit and scream at another human being is what makes some people go home and sleep better I guess?:idunno:

You are right. I would say 95% of parents and fans are ignorant of the rules. However they think they know it all and insist on acting like fools. They make me sick:puke:

My favorite is the parents who get into arguments with the other parents across the gym and actually go out on the court heading for the opposing parents. Or the fan who gets out of his seat and heads after one of the refs because of a bad call.:ohbrother:

Sounds like you are a ref hoopitup! Just to let you know there were alot of parents yelling at them from both sides. I have seen alot of games called bad and alot that were called very good . This game was just so bad I thought that I should say something on here. Not all refs are bad 80 % of them do a great job,( hope you are one of them!! )
