Congrats to the Birds,They played well and #10 was clutch in the 4th Quarter carrying the birds with his shooting,Nice player.Mason did get in there bang and rebound much better than i thought they might against the bigger stronger Birds. Both teams was missing 2 key starters tonight also but both fought right threw and played it with what they had.On to Bowling Green for the Royals and Good luck to Highlands the rest of the way.

Who do they play and when?

How is Mason Co down? They are still a top 15 team without two solid players in Josh Harris and Neal Pawsat. :ohbrother:

They lost a lot last year. Setty is a great player, but they don't have the players they have had in the past. I don't think they are a top 15 team. Highlands winning without 2 of their best players is a good example of that. Anyways, that is my opinion.

Mason plays Franklin-Simpson Sunday

Ryle Monday then TBA

Mason built a seven point lead three or four times but made cruical mistakes at inportune times. The last lead was at the end of the third quarter and we had a turnover and a charge and Highlands scored the last five points of the quarter and the game on. Lother had done nothing until the fourth and he took the game over. He scored 12 of Highlands 15 points and would not let them lose. He never missed a shot the entire night. Mason needs to make more plays in big situations and more offense from the guards because Highlands sagged in a deep zone all night.

I'll eat my crow, saying Mason Co would win.

Impressive win by the Birds for them to win without their two best players in Kowolonek and Grote.

MC had no answer for Grubbs inside as he was their second leading scorer with 9 points.

"Mighty Mouse" Lother stepped up big hitting a 3 in the final minute to give the Birds the lead and finishing with 17 points.

Mason Co isn't a top 15 team. Period.

Highlands just beat the Royals despite a kid who got a double double on MC last year (Kowolonek- 24 pts, 13 rbs), not even playing.

Maybe when the injured players get back they'll be a top 15 team, but no way this current bunch of Royals is a top 15 team. They're barely a top 20 team, IMO.

Mason County this year is Setty and Gilbert and last year's JV team, this may be a chance for some teams that haven't beaten them in the past to win this this year. Is the transfer from Montgomery playing? Think they will miss Barner's athleticism this year.

Great win by Birds. Agree with everything posted so far but just want to comment on what a great team victory it was. Defense and intensity were incredible. Zac had HUGE game. Tyler's presence was big, esp. in first half. But how about some other shout outs: Ben Watson played his guts out, defended Setty in man most the game, and held him to only 2 pts in 4th; Cory Dill played unselfishly (again) and seemed to play every position at times - will do whatever it takes to win; Stephen Gordon had two timely hoops off strong drives in the 4th qt.; and how about Garrett Smith Keller nailing a big 3 late in the 4th! It's a deep senior class!

Great points Hawkeye !! Watson was working like a dog on Setty and lets not forget Watson had a big bucket as well. Dill is the epitome of a team player, in fact all of those guys play so well as a team.

Smith-Keller dropped a big 3 late in the game and Gordon's drive on the baseline and unorthodoxed make was unreal. I thought he got killed but no call and still had the presence to make the bucket.

The Birds need someone to be more aggressive on the perimeter with spotting up and knocking down the 3. If they dont then teams will sag back and defend the post like the Royals did last night. In the 2nd half they made it tough to get the ball to Watson and Grubbs.

Lother stepped up last night. Nice to see the Jr's (Egan,Crowley,Dean)come off the bench and play well in spots. That was huge in giving the starters breathers. SHOOT that ROCK EGAN !!! You have a great stroke !!

Yes, the transfer from Montgomery County is playing. His name is Logan Manship. He's currently the 7th man i believe.

I agree with you about missing Barner's athleticism. Before the season, it appeared Mason County and Clark County were on the same level. It appears early on that Clark County is pulling away fast from Mason County.

Also want to mention that the Highlands JV put a hurting on the Mason Co JV last night. I dont remember the exact final but I know it was something like 53 to 25. The Birds JV team is loaded with talent and they are very unselfish players.

I'm guessing there are quite a few JRs playing JV?

Crowley/Egan/Dean/Terry are the JR's.

Towles/J.True/New/A.Merrill/Austin Merrill/Lewis/Bruns are the sophs

Nick True - 8th grader

Im not sure. I wasnt at the game, but if they are missing him and they can still pull out wins like this it'll be pretty scary to play Highlands when they get him back.

Don't forget that Mason is also missing a key player in Pawsatt. His inside muscle would have been a big difference maker in this contest.

Give me a break. Highlands is not the only team missing key players. Pawsatt is every bit as important to Mason as these two are to Highlands. If Pawsatt plays, Mason wins this game.
