I couldn't diagree more...from what I saw of the Irish this year AC could come in and start on either side of the ball as a true frosh.

I have never seen the kid play, but the chances of any Freshman coming in at a high level and starting is extremely slim, and I really have a hard time believing he would have started over any WR or RB ND had this season. If he is projected as a safety, he most likely would not have started on defense over Kyle McCarthy or Sergio Brown. Starting as a Frosh in college is extremely rare and it is the exception, not the rule... no matter how talented you are in high school.

I don't think he would be more than a Special Teams contributor there but he will get a wonderful education.

 

If Notre Dame is so great and so special and so talented, why are they rarely successful. Maybe Collinsworth is what they need.

Both started as true freshmen. True freshmen playing and starting, especially at skill positions where speed is crucial, is becoming more common. If you have a frosh running a 4.40 and he has good hands, he's intelligent, good instincts, good tackler would you play an upper classmen who is not as fast and maybe doesn't have as good as hands or instincts over the freshman?

:ohbrother:Again, it is the exception, not the rule. Randall Cobb was solid as a Freshman at receiver on team that had no other option and lost all but 1 game as a starting QB. Tate Forcier regressed as the season went along and led the Wolverines to a 5-7 (1-7 in the Big 10) record with their best win of the season coming against... you guessed it, the helpless Irish (6-6).

 

Do not mistake what I am saying as he is not good... to the contrary I think he is great. I am not saying he could not play for ND. And maybe he could contribute as a possession receiver or a special teams player as Freshman. But coming in and starting over NFL ready guys would be a rarity.

Buddy don't tell me about X,Y or Z's. I think Collinsworth is amazing. But to automatically say he would start for ND is a stretch at best. Just trying to keep things in perspective here. You should try it.:thumb:

Thanks for the correction...I didn't mean to imply he did though I can see how it would be interpreted as such(very few college athletes run a true 4.40) Randall Cobb has never been the fastest on UK's team, but he's a playmaker that beats you with his balance, agility, hand and vision.

Bugatti, exactly how many NFL guys would AC have to beat out next year in either the receiving corps or defensive secondary? Last I checked the aforementioned "Golden Tate" will not be returning for his senior year and will instead be playing on Sundays.

I didn't say AC would start over Golden Tate...I didn't say he would have started over anybody on the Irish team this year. I said he could "come in" (meaning when he gets there...next season) and start based on what I saw of the Irish this year.

:thumb: Cool. I think he will be a major contributor where ever he goes. BTW, Micheal Floyd is still there. Just remember Offense was not the problem at ND. They had a very productive Offense this past year. Best of luck to AC though.
