December 8, 200916 yr Gray @ Highlands should be a good game. Not so much at the 6th grade level. As was posted earlier, Gray by 25. The game was out of hand early and the Gators never looked back. The 7th grade game was a great game to watch. Two very talented teams battling for 24 minutes. The final was 66-58. That's a ton of points for a middle school game. Both teams were aggressive defensively, but boys were making shots. HMS had about 10 3-pointers, while Gray scored inside and out. Hope these two teams meet again at the end of the season in the tourney.
December 9, 200916 yr Ockerman beat Woodland in 6th no idea on the score. Ockerman did the usual in 7th grade which was good because Lil' Ru scored 6 and was a very happy camper after the game.
December 9, 200916 yr HMS 6th and 7th over Grant County tonight. The 7th grade final was 43-35. To those confused by the multiple timeouts called by the HMS coach at the end of the 6th grade game even though they were ahead, the coach was calling timeouts buying time for the 4 - 7th grade boys who were lost trying to get to the gym. They finally arrived about 3 minutes into the 1st quarter. FYI, do no rely on a GPS to get you to Grant County Middle School. For some reason it takes you to the wrong place.
December 11, 200916 yr In 6th grade Ockerman over IHM by 11 I believe. In 7th grade Ockerman over IHM by a bunch. Another no contest. However, IHM has the best center I have seen in the league. I don't know his name but that kid can flat out play.

December 11, 200916 yr I agree both are very fine players and will be fun to watch as they move through the ranks :thumb: Both are great players that play against a lot of 8th graders and do a great job even at that level. Good years left to come for these 2 fine men!
December 11, 200916 yr Both are great players that play against a lot of 8th graders and do a great job even at that level. Good years left to come for these 2 fine men! Just curious to know, are each of these kids holdbacks/grade exceptions? Just trying to confirm what I was told by someone that officiates some of these games.
December 12, 200916 yr Just curious to know, are each of these kids holdbacks/grade exceptions? Just trying to confirm what I was told by someone that officiates some of these games. Both are exemptions: The AAU cutoff is Sept 1. Stanley is a 30 day exemption and Kunstek is 90 day exemption. Both came from Indiana....in that state you can wait till the next year if you are born in the summer months.

Both came from Indiana....in that state you can wait till the next year if you are born in the summer months. Regardless, they are both good players. Especially the Stanley boy. He is often one of the best kids on the floor when his 7th grade AAU team plays an 8th grade team.
December 12, 200916 yr So if my son had a late April/early May I should have held him back. I have seen both of these kids play and yes they are extremely talented but at this age that holdback advantage is very noticeable from a majurity standpoint. Each of these kids look like men amongst boys.
December 12, 200916 yr Conner Kunstek for IHM. Stanley and Kunstek played on the same AAU team until last year. How did Stanley do against Kunstek?? A couple of times Kinstek was able to muscle Stanley but for the most part Stanley's defense was outstanding and his quick hands successful. On offense, Stanley was a little too quick for Kunstek but again Kunstek is outstanding!

I have seen both of these kids play and yes they are extremely talented but at this age that holdback advantage is very noticeable from a majurity standpoint. Each of these kids look like men amongst boys. If you lived in Indiana....I guess you would have that option. I happen to know both sets of parents and they both had the same story. It must be the way it works in Indiana. We need exemptions in N KY. They do it in many areas of KY.

Each of these kids look like men amongst boys. You all need to read the book Outliers. There is a chapter that deals with birthdates and the Jr Pro hockey leagues in Canada. The most superior hockey players in Canada are the ones whose birthdates fall in January of a given year. If you were born in the later months you were at a great disadvantage. Families plan births for the beginning of the year in many parts of Canada for that sole purpose. Excellent book, by Malcom Gladwell. The whole idea of holding kids back is interesting...however I think it should be done prior to the first grade than later...just me. Sorry for the threadjack, but thought it was interesting.
December 13, 200916 yr There is definitely an advantage at the Middle School level and not to beat a dead horse but it is what it is.
