Strong UofL's Leading Candidate

Featured Replies

Article says Jurich and Strong will formally talk about the job on Sunday. As a fan, I'm excited about the potential Charlie Strong brings to the table.

Says Butch Jones and Phil Fulmer have expressed interest in the opening.

I would still love the irony if they got Tuberville.

It would be a great decision to hire Charlie Strong, he is easily the second best DC in the country, only behind Monte Kiffin IMO. He would have Louisville on the right track within the next two seasons.

I hope he gets the job, he is by far the most qualified, legitimate candidate for the job IMO.

The thing that would concern me is who he brings with him? It has to be coaches from several different programs, unless he keeps some Card coaches. This is a problem for any OC/DC who gets a head coaching job. Charlie has to find an OC and a good one.

Also if they hire a HC from a program they are taking him away from his kids he recruited, at least thats what everyone told me about Coach Saban. Funny how that comes around.

So then you look at TT and Phat Phil. Where do they find their coaches?

I agree with you, but also have to think he knows a few guys along the way that he could talk into coming.

I know for a fact that they have already met with Sumlin and he appears to be the leader.

Is Sumlin wanting to come?

I think he brings Coach Gonzales UF current WR coach with him. Gonzales would have gotten the UF one in many peoples mind had he not have been so young. Urban thinks really highly of him, and he's currently UF's recruiting Coordinator. That combination makes U of L a bowl team next year IMO. I know it's crazy, but Urban's guys just make such a quick impact. He would bring in some good players to finish up the recruiting class. I think some SFLA guys that UF has slow played a bit may even possibly come with him.

Charlie Strong would make U of L a contender in their conference pretty soon. He would build the program with a solid Florida pipeline, and when he leaves Gonzales could be ready to take over the program. I think if U of L can get both of them they should really jump on it. Urban is very good to his former assistants and would probably help out any way that he could.

U of L can get a proven defensive coach that has coached under probably the greatest coach of this era while bringing solid connections in Florida recruiting. I do not think they can ask for more than that.

I know for a fact Strong is the leader and is likely to be announced by Monday. See it's easy... :idunno:

Please don't, CCC. Seriously....Please don't get them all riled up with super-high expectations. The next thing you know, we won't be able to keep a coach through the pre-season. :ohbrother:

Urban's guys are that good. Urban won in his first year at BG with a converted RB at QB. Strong will fix the defense quickly IMO. Maybe they won't be able to make a bowl, but they would be much more competitive IMO.

I understand your point though. It's really the same thing that I've said in the UK threads. Strong is a good fit tough IMO, and will change the culture of U of L football.

Mark Snyder would be a good choice for an assistant coach for Charlie Strong.

I think Strong would be able to bring some of UF's assistants with him, also, he was a holdover from Ron Zook's time in Gainesville. I think he will be fine in finding recruits.
