Maybe look for an AAU team for them to play against. As they have looked over the past couple weeks and seeing th other scores. they are playing too well to get beat by a local team right now. Maybe in a few weeks when some of the other teams start to gel they will be challenged.
December 2, 200916 yr Same old story with the 6th grade last night. Play themselves into a hole by attempting to play the entire bench and then get down 7 or 8 points and try to battle back in the final quarter. Actually cut the deficit to 4 late in the game, but costly turnovers and forced shots were there undoing. This team is better than their current 3-3 record. They need to be allowed to display their skills rather than worrying so much about where they need to be standing on the floor to run a play. I try not to second guess, but it looks like the team is putting boys in positions based on sizes. I think you can't substitute two big guys for two big guys when one should be your starting small forward or first option of the bench. Kids hit spurts differently and I am one that believes you should play your best five and then start rotations and let the boys earn minutes based on play or clear the bench in games like last night when the outcome was in hand. Role players should have gotten significant playing time last night but do not lose quarters on free substitutions in close games. The 7th grade is doing it like I would suggest... Perhaps the 6th grade coach still is determining his rotation. I hate to be second guessed so I will give him the benefit of the doubt, certainly I am sure he is trying to see if any boy can step up and play point guard (an area of need). Just like the 7th grade really could use a big from the 6th grade...

Just like the 7th grade really could use a big from the 6th grade... Highlands 7th grade coach always had a 2-3 kids from the 6th on his team what happen ? They always seem to do good at that level , If they need a Big go get him let him play up and learn to use his body with older guys . I think they had a guard that was a 6th grader last year that was really awesome to watch . If the kids that donot get playing time now donot like the Big coming up sorry about their luck they will get cut in the 8th or 9th anyways . I cannot think why the 7th coach did not get this done because he always did before . Did the new high school coach step on his toes?

I think the game tomorrow night against Turkeyfoot will be a good test for Conner. I believe both teams are undefeated in league play, and this should be a good one at Conner. On a side note, I heard the post-season tourney will be held at Conner. This may aid their chances of winning the tournament.

This is the first year for 6th grade basketball at HMS, in the past, 4 to 5 of the more advanced 6th graders were added to the 7th grade team. This is not needed anymore, they have a grade level team of their own. The bigs on the 6th grade level are nice players and if not for having their own team would probably have been the kids added to the 7th roster. They are in no way superior players to the 7th grade boys getting the minutes. The 7th grade team in 7-1 with their guard/forward rotation of seven. Coach is getting the remainder of the roster minutes as the game dictates. If the goal of the 6th grade team is to be competitive and start producing some wins, the coach needs to figure out a rotation that works. They are better than their .500 record suggests.

I agree that the two bigs in 6th might not work on the 7th team as that is a strong bunch but eventually one of the bigs will be playing up or a growth spurt is needed because they will not be able to contend with a team with a strong 4 and 5 position player. The PG allows them to play small, I am not so sure without him that this combo would work. However, they grow like weeds anyway so I concur let them play together and they are playing very good ball.....:thumb: The 6th needs a better rotation as they are better than their record and they really have looked sloppy at times. They are missing a PG but it is middle school and they are trying. I just don't get the sub pattern it does not make sense at all to me. This really needs to get figured out as I know a few are getting frustrated. I am all for developing the players but at times this looks like a 3 ring circus.

However I believe that Zach McNeil is probably playing for the HS team this year and won't be playing for the 8th grade team. That is a big difference.

Moeves is playing very well. He had a great jv game against Cooper Tuesday night. I don't know if Walton could beat Conner....just give them some competition. They do play them later on in their schedule at Walton.
