November 16, 200916 yr People said this same stuff when the Bengals signed Benson last year. Don't you think it worked out pretty well?:sssh: Benson's run in had to do w/ alcohol. He wasn't a derisive force in the locker room, he was actually considered a good team mate. Larry Johnson has been a distraction in Happy Valley, and Kansas City. I don't remember Benson calling Lovie Smith anything deragatory. I sure remember Larry Johnson doing that, and complaining about splitting carries w/ Priest Holmes. Might as well sign TO also, since Chris Henry is out for the season.
November 16, 200916 yr If you're LJ, you'd have to love the chance at playing for a playoff contender, with the opportunity to get back at your former employer just a few weeks down the road...
November 16, 200916 yr Uh, yeah. Low risk. That's what that prorated league minimum is about. No one wanted to sign him for anymore because that would be too high of a risk. This way if he starts his off the field problema you lose practically nothing and just dump him. The locker room is a funny place, and once you lose the balance that they have in it now, it is very hard to get that back. Why even throw someone this combustible in there to screw things up?

Chad has been considered a bad influence in the locker room before. Should the Bengals dump him? Plus much like Chad's situation. It is amazing how winning will shut up a cry baby.
November 16, 200916 yr Chad has been considered a bad influence in the locker room before. Should the Bengals dump him? In the past, I said yes. However, this year he hasn't been this year. He's also not been suspended for the remainder of a season by his team. CJ also hasn't done anything criminal off of the field. This is a bad signing.
November 16, 200916 yr I like it for the prorated league minimum. Tell him up front he is number 2 behind Benson if he agrees to come to Cincinnati. The first time he runs his mouth or gets out of line, you just dump him back to the street and you lose almost nothing. The only part I don't like is who do you take off the roster as they have all done well.
November 16, 200916 yr LJ is a cancer in lockerrooms and doesn't need to be in the league. Having said that most of Bengals were underachievers on others teams and they seem to rally around that. A couple years back LJ was a great back and maybe this is the right place for him. Sign him to the league min for a vet and see what happens. I think him being on a good team will be good enough for him to keep his mouth shut. If it doen't work you can release him.
November 16, 200916 yr I think LJ could be a steal, with a winning team and a solid QB I could see him helping the Bengals.

In Chicago half the team didn't want him there, or did you not remember that? Then he got in trouble with the law with alcohol too. People were saying that it was dumb for them to sign him and it worked out. As for Larry Johnson he has played on some bad football teams lately. I mean shoot even Chad Ochocinco was a bad person to have in the locker room when things were going bad. Winning changes things and changes people, plus he is coming into a winning situation. It would be almost impossible for him to cause problems in this locker room. If anything he probably will try to prove on the field to his new teammates that he can help a team that is already very good. However worst case even if he does cause problems like you think, he has came at a cheap price and could just release him then. More good can come out of this than bad.

CJ also hasn't done anything criminal off of the field. This is a bad signing. The problems with the law isn't an issue according to your post about Benson's past. Also Chad would've been suspended by a lot of teams so don't hang your hat on that. He hasn't anymore because of a new season that is going well. As far as a bad locker room guy and calling out coaches that is the same Chad that punched a coach at halftime of a playoff game so I guess he's a terrible locker room guy for the rest of his career. People change.

November 16, 200916 yr Who's spot will he take on the roster? My first question as well. Roy Williams
November 16, 200916 yr I see know reason to throw this disruption on a team playing like this. They got lucky w/ Benson, eventually these kind of signings catch up to you.
