November 9, 200916 yr Let's remember they had a great defense during that run too. True, but didn't the offense have some huge drives in each of the 3 SB wins? Much of that has to go to Brady, but some of it is on Weis as well. We have to separate the OC Weis from the ND HC Weis. Weis isn't a good HC for ND, he thinks too much like an NFL guy. One loss doesn't kill you in the NFL, 28 points wins you alot of NFL games. You have alot more responsibility as a college HC than an NFL OC. He's not tough enough for the job, but to me I think the man has shown that he knows some football.
November 9, 200916 yr But Brady had to lead them down the field three times in the fourth quarter to either get Vinitieri into FG range or got the touchdown. Brady... not Weis.

November 9, 200916 yr I felt like Weis was a masterful play caller when he was the OC in New England. He does a great job mixing run and pass. I thought he did a great job at ND early on when they could run the ball better...for whatever reason, their running game is non-existent in 2009, so its pretty much all pass right now. Still, I think he's one of the best play callers I've seen. ND's running woes came from Willingham's reluctance to bring in good (and alot of) linemen. Weis sort of overlooked it as well his first few years, but the line is getting better. He had to learn that in College it's more about the players than it is about the strategy. Good talent can make a bad coach look good (Larry Coker) and bad talent can make a smart coach look bad.
November 9, 200916 yr 20-17 and 24-21 were two of the scores in Super Bowl victories for the Pats. That is pretty low.
November 9, 200916 yr 20-17 and 24-21 were two of the scores in Super Bowl victories for the Pats. That is pretty low. NFL is a lower scoring game though. 24 points should win you most NFL games. Most scoring drives are like a chess match, with the OC's trying to set something up for a big play, in the NFL. You don't have to do that alot in college or HS.
November 9, 200916 yr How many coaches left Bellichek and things didn't work out at there next venue?

November 9, 200916 yr Compared to other Super Bowl scores those are low. I'll just stop there. CW is garbage. He had nothing to do with New England winning the SB, or Brady becoming a good QB. Bellicheck secretly called the offense for those years.
November 9, 200916 yr Author I bet John Gruden has received a call from someone from Southbend... It would be a good fit, I think if he, Tony Dungy, Bill Cowher or Mike Shanahan took a big time college program, they would be unstoppable.
November 10, 200916 yr I think Weis is a pretty good coach. I don't know how much credit he deserves for Brady's development, but he does deserve some. However, that doesn't factor in when judging him as the head coach of the Fighting Irish. I think Weis is in a tough situation. Notre Dame expects him to compete with USC and Florida without leveling the playing field, i.e., admission requirements. I'm aware that some people don't view that as a legitimate excuse. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact. From an article written about a year ago... The Trojans are allowed to recruit just about anyone, and that, combined with a talent-rich backyard and charismatic coaching staff, allows USC to stockpile quality players. Texas, Oklahoma and Florida enjoy similar advantages, and though Ohio State and Penn State must face slightly tougher standards than the others, they still aren't as restricted as Notre Dame, which falls closer to Duke, Stanford and Vanderbilt on the athletic admissions continuum... Quarterback Tony Rice led Notre dame to a national title in 1988. Rice, who was admitted under Proposition 48, wouldn't be considered by Notre Dame today... Notre Dame's strongest selling point is the education it provides. But Duke, Northwestern, Stanford and Vanderbilt offer an equally prestigious or more prestigious education, and they're chasing the same players. To truly have a chance to win 10 games a year on a consistent basis, Notre Dame would have to sign 25 of the best 50 players every year from the pool of those capable of meeting admission standards. But it won't have to fight only the pocket-protector crowd for those players. Michigan, Virginia, Cal, Missouri and all the rest want smart players, too. They make for great PR, and their intelligence usually makes them coachable. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/andy_staples/11/25/notre.dame/1.html That excuse is getting real old. I listened to the BYU coach a couple of weeks ago, and he stated with the type of kids they recruit they are limited to 35 to 40 kids a year that even fit their system. Seems to me they've been better than ND for awhile now. Navy just beat them 2 out of 3 times probably just as tough or tougher to get in the Naval Acadamy. Haven't ND's recruiting classes been ranked pretty high since Weiss got there?
November 10, 200916 yr Compared to other Super Bowl scores those are low. What other scores? Tampa Bay put up 48 in XXXVI but outside of that its mostly in the 20's and a few 30's in the last ten years or so. CW had 20, 32, 24 in his three trips. Compare that to the 13 the Pats put up in 08 with a way better offense...

Bellicheck secretly called the offense for those years. See I don't understand why you get like this in an argument? Not once have I suggested CW is garbage, I just disagree with him being the best offensive mind of our generation :idunno: 24 points is the seventh lowest total for a Super Bowl winner since Super Bowl XI. The Pats also have a total under that. So yea... point totals of 21 and 24 do not in any way suggest that that team got it done with offense first in those Super Bowls.
