Which of us have a 68 min/month plan?

It looks like with AT&T that the smallest plan that someone can have is 700 minutes/month, though I am sure that some people use the prepaid minutes. My point is...where will the abuse and the gluttony of phone usage come in?

 

Rightfully so emergency service numbers wouldn't count against the minutes. These phones aren't on a monthly plan. They're pre paid phones. The people who get the phones will also get discounted minutes. Is someone monitoring what the minutes are used for? I hope not. I'd say there are ways to abuse the system.

Why do people use CAPS? I ALREADY SAID I HOPE NOBODY IS MONITORING IT. I ALSO SAID THEY CAN BUY EXTRA MINUTES AT A DISCOUNT AND THEY ALREADY HAVE TO BE GETTING A GOVERNMENT HANDOUT. OK, here's my take. I see a goodly number of families, broken and otherwise, many of which live in the project housing 1/2 mile down the road from my office and receive federal aid as patients in my practice. The overwhelming majority of the parents and kids that I see who are drawing a check and sitting outside smoking on the front porch when I drive by daily already have Iphones or blackberries. I'm not stereotyping and I don't have numbers for acemona since no one abuses the system. I wouldn't call it abuse. I'd call it highly intelligent manipulation. I see it every day. Must only happen in Huntington, WV though, cause it sounds like it doesn't happen anywhere else.

So, I'm all for the 68 minute phones, I don't think that in Huntington at least, that they'll be all that popular.:thumb:

There are those that abuse any system and it's not just tied in with socioeconomic status. However, there are those that use public assistance to make their situation better. We do need to find a way to limit the abuse, but not throw the baby out with the bath water at the same time.

A very good friend of mine and his live in girlfriend found out about a year ago they were pregnant. They were advised by people to not get married b/c they could qualify for government assistance. They make a combined $80,000 a year. They got married and didn't ask for assistance, but my point is people know how to abuse the system. There is far too much money being given out by these programs to people that don't need it. Where is this money coming from? Unemployment just got extended to two years. Unemployment is a great system in theory that gets abused every single day. Where does it stop? Why work if you don't have to?

I don't disagree with anything that you have said here. The system needs to be overhauled, as do many situations. People know how to abuse many situations. I know of people that are on disability that are wealthy and still do all of the activities that they did before their "injury." However, I also know someone that is truly in need of the disability benefit that he gets. It's not limited to one socioeconomic class.

 

I agree that there is an "entitlement" mentality that some people have. It's not just those receiving government assistance, either.

I sold cell phones for a few years and this wasn't popular AT ALL. I actually know because my boss wanted to try to reach out to help people get phones who didn't have them (or at least that's what he said). I honestly doubt this is used at all thus it would be very hard to abuse it. I care too much about other things with my cell phone provider to worry about whether or not this is passed to me BUT if I didn't want to pay for it I have the option of switching carries. And if all things were equal I would pick the carrier who didn't pass this on.

He didn't say what their separate incomes were...but this could EASILY be done. I know several people that have waited for the exact same reason.

Exactly. Together they had no chacne to qualify. Seperately living in the same house they would have.

I heard 99 weeks, but I can honestly say it was on the news and I haven't researched it.
