The recent decline of the state's elite

Featured Replies

I notice that several on the list are independent schools. I believe that many county school systems in the areas surrounding these independent schools have improved in either the athletic and academic arenas or in both, which caused many student athletes to remain in their own school district, whereas in the past they would end up in the independent district.

Definatly not the case in my neck of the woods. Maybe other places, but not here.

Are teams that are 5 games over .500 elite?
I dont know about elite but they have made some deep runs in the playoffs in recent years. With six classes, the term "elite" is just as watered down as six classes.
Totally wrong on the bolded.

There is still the "reciprocal agreement", its just capped at the number of kids(300 I think).

I know you coached there but whoever told you that it was done completely flat out lied.

I stand corrected on that.

Point was though, that the 300 kids that were already there would 'eat up' that 300 the board let us have. In other words, no more kids going to Virgie through 8th grade then coming to Pikeville for high school.

With the current set-up (initiated in 2005), if there's already 300 out-of-city-limits kids enrolled in the elementary school and Jr. High, there would be no way for a kid wanting to come to start HS to come in, right?

Thats the way I understand it. May be wrong, but hopefully someone can explain further. By the way is this same policy implemented in other school districts elsewhere??

Malachi wasn't asking a question despite the question mark at the end.

I hate to point out the obvious but Boone's opponents have a 63-29 record this year. They have 3 teams that they have played with losing records but 2 are still undefeated, one has one loss and 3 have only 2 losses.

The old scheduling adage that you schedule 3 wins, 4 teams even with you, and 3 above doesn't fit for Boone. They scheduled 2 wins, 2 even and 6 above them based on this years achievements, not historical opinion.

Methinks the Tigers of St X should not underestimate the Rebels based on their record.

As to the offensive play calling, it seems like the defense has given up a bunch of points- that may be because the offense doesn't sustain a drive but Colerain seems to be a run only team and they do okay.

Well of their ten games, 5 are district mandated. I would bet that going into the season Boone felt all their district games, save possibly SK, were winnable. Of the remaining five, Dixie should have been (and may be) more than beatable for them. They beat Lafayette and Scott County was also winnable. HHS and Anderson were obviously first-rate opponents, but those are the type of opponents that help you prepare for a possible playoff run, which I'm sure Boone felt they would be making at season's start. They had a solid schedule, but they also simply didn't perform well. I don't think the key was to put together a schedule full of cupcakes to produce a pretty, but ultimately meaningless, record. It's fine to be a run-only team when you have the personnel to run such an offense, but it becomes a problem when you don't and seemingly don't make any adjustments.

St. X will beat the Rebels by no less than 40.

I think Colerain runs the triple option? A little differnt than what Boone runs..

With the schedule they played there may 3-4 teams in KY that could have put a better record than that over that span.
