Bell just has more weapons than Harlan. I hope I am wrong, but Bell is the best team in the mountains IMHO, and will get this win. Harlan has improved as the season has worn on, and their line is very strong. Bell is Bell and is now clicking on all cylinders.

Cawood - Tommy Hensley, Mike Sargent, Dusty Alred, Scotty Farmer. I may have left 1 or 2 out. That was a year after I graduated. Cully was the coach.

HDE is being modest...the backs were not as good as the line for Cawood that year...Garry Henson, Tim Shackleford, Craig Simpson, Mike Burke...please...they were pretty darn good. I remember their defensive line obliterating Freddie Maggard that year (senior at Cumberland)...Freddie wasn't quite a scrub (ha).

Burke's last playing year was 85. Graduated in 86..... You have the others correct + Mike Pennington, Mike Dempsey, Bobby Owens, Creed Turner TE & Shelby Calton TE.

David Ball was the starting quarterback, but I think he was hurt early in the year and Dondi Noah played some before taking over the next year.

 

Garry Henson and Tim Shackleford were the best pair of defensive ends in the region and Mike Dempsey was the best tackle pound for pound in eastern Kentucky. Bryan Barrett was an all-state kicker. Tommy Hensley was their big-play guy, and Mike Sergent and Dusty Alred also started in the backfield. Shelby Calton, whose son, Jordan, is a standout defensive end for the Bears, was a linebacker.

 

I think it was Hilton's fourth year at Bell. He lost the first four, then never lost again.
