About that public option

I think if you got a truly honest opinion from the majority of the people, they would say they want a public option but don't want to pay for it. Does anyone agree?

Well I mean I want health care for everyone, but I also want everyone to do well in school (see no child left behind). It sounds great in theory but it doesn't work in practice. But yes I think most people would support health care for all/ public option if it were viable.

And that's the tricky part.

Most people I know do not want the public option or anything else that looks like or leads to socialized medicine. The government job is to govern.

Yes, I do. The same public option we have today. Go buy an insurance policy.

Honest question, why would I continue to pay for my insurance policy I presently have if I can get the government to pay for my insurance?

I mean most people want everyone to receive health care. I mean I'm not heartless I would love for everyone to be able to go to the doctor whenever they need to. Public option is just one mechanism.

Unfortunately that is not the way the public option has been discussed, so, you would be out of luck and just have to continue to get the same coverage you have now . . . wow, that is exactly what the President has been saying

Yeah, because he has done everything he has said he would thus far...

So, those who have chosen to not better themselves through educational opportunities and be able to afford health insurance and those who have made bad decisions in life, get their insurance paid for by the government.

While those who have worked hard to be in a position to be a positive in society and not a drain on society have to pay for it.

I get it.

Great motivation for my students.

Work hard so you can pay more in taxes to support those who have not worked hard to put themselves into a position to be self-supporting.

I think the key to get support for the public option is that the liberals need to show it is not just simply another handout and redistribution of wealth from those that have worked hard to earn theirs to those that in MOST cases have not worked hard.

I find it very interesting that liberals are so for evolution in the schools but don't like it in practice in society.

What you are referring to now sounds like Medicaid, which we already have . . . how is it that everyone can be against this "public option" but have no idea about how it was going to be used. OHHHH Steve Doucey advised you guys on what the public option was going to look like, or was it Hannity or was it Beck. How about doing a little research to see what is the proposed use of the public option before making statements describing a system that we already have and saying that is the system we are going to get.

As a teacher concerned about your students, you should be smart enough to tell them about welfare, Medicare, etc and explain why the country does it. You should also be smart enough to tell them that while us taxpayers who made good decisions are ALREADY paying for many people's healthcare.

You would also be smart to tell them that the scenario you're offering, while a problem, is a scare tactic and that MANY people in this country who would need to go to the public option are not deadbeats with no ambition in life.

If I was a teacher concerned about my students as you seem to indicate that's how I would go about it.

Lastly, I'd also teach them that people that throw around pejoratives like "liberals" are just trying to distract people from knowledge.

I have researched it and government enough to know that what it starts out as and what it ends up as 20 years later are usually 2 very different things.

I have also read that Mr. Reid is trying to sneak into the Helathcare Bill that if you have a loaded gun in your place of residence you can get no public option........
