I just hope we can play on a decent field for once this year. We have played in mud holes all year. Thats another issue that should be taken into account when people start talking all-state, Mr. football,.... We don't have the luxury of playing on turf. Our field is an absolute mud hole right now, after the recent band competition and all of the tractors moving equipment around on an already sloppy field.

No, I think that's just about right. They seem to be playing their best football right now, which is a big positive, but they've still got some issues. I think they could easily rise in the rankings before the playoffs, but as things stand and for how they looked early, this is pretty impressive.

Region 1 = D1-1 vs D2-4; D2-2 vs D1-3

D2-1 vs D1-4; D1-2 vs D2-3

Region 2 = D3 vs D4

 

Semi = R1 vs R2

 

Region 3 = D5 vs D6

Region 4 = D7 vs D8

 

Semi = R3 vs R4

I think you're misinterpreting some things that have been said in other threads. Everybody has some poor teams on their schedule ... some go out of their way to add more to the slate.

 

Corbin hasn't played that strong of a schedule, but nothing was said about that when they were ranked second for a good part of the season.

 

If memory serves, Corbin was ranked second until the loss to Clark County, which at the time looked like a mediocre 6A club. However, Clark's subsequent wins over Henry Clay and Tates Creek might serve to reassess that sentiment.

 

Personally, I think you could take the 2-4 teams (Corbin, DeSales and Prestonsburg) and justify putting them in any order. The Lexington Christian game next week will be one where we can make a good judgment of this Corbin team.

 

Westsider I didn't know what kind of teams they scheduled until I started looking at it. Some of the teams they play year in and year out are down this year. No fault of Corbin. It happens. I'm not saying Corbin shouldn't be ranked #2,3 ect. Just stating what I think. I know very little about Corbin or any other team outside my local area. And I'm sure you and 99% of the people on here are the same. We all just look at who they have played. What the score was. Where they played. What they have done the last four or five games vs who they played. Close to the end of the regular season you can get a good feel on how teams will fair vs others. Unless you are bias towards a team and you can't see through it. And I think that happens alot on here. I promise you I'm not at al bias towards any team. I try to mathematically and methodically break these teams down starting about half way through the season. I think that is a good place to start. And I know I will step on toes. And people will be upset with me for saying what I believe. Oh well. But I don't do it through my gut or heart. I study it and analysis it before I say it. Of course everyone here does the same.

What about P'Burg? Their schedule is no better than Corbins. Heck it might be weaker. All I'm saying is that everybody plays weak teams, so don't say that Corbin has a very weak schedule and it hurts them in the rankings.

I have watched Corbin several times and I'm still not sure just how good they are. They need to stay healthy as depth is not very good again this year. The next couple of weeks will give us a better gauge of how far they may be able to go in the playoffs. I would guess that right now that everyone is a notch or two below Fort Campbell with P'burg, NCC, DeSales and Corbin behind them.

 

The schedule could be better, but they have to play Leslie Co. and Knott Co. and Middlesboro since they are in the district. They also traditionally play South and North Laurel and both are 5A schools that are sometimes up and sometimes down. Danville was expected to be very strong when that game was scheduled, but they have really dropped off and GRC is another larger school that obviously could challenge Corbin. Hazard and LCA are both very good programs, so I can understand these two, which really only leaves Harlan as maybe a questionable team to schedule.

Because Newport Catholic is one of the top 10 teams in 2A. Their record is 3-5 because they play a lot of good teams from bigger classes. There aren't but a handful of 2A teams in the state that would do as well as or better than NewCath against that schedule.
