Zack Deaton does a great job with what he has to work with. Nobody questioned him or his staff 2 years ago when he won (I think) 8 games! I don't know why there is all this negativity towards coaches in nky. Its not always about x's and o's but johnny and joe's! :taz:

There is too much pride surrounding Dayton Football to allow the program to slip into oblivion. Small school programs experince greater swings in performance, but where there is a foundation and tradition, they will work hard to cycle back around for success seasons. In Campbell County, the addition of Bishop Brossart to the 1A mix will enhance the experince for us fans.

Dayton has a great coaching staff. The staff is dedicated to the team and the community. IMO the problem I see with Dayton football is the same you see with several other teams. The problem is that too many people get it in their heads that little johnny (or Joe) needs to be transferred to a school that has a program that is currently succeeding. Dayton has had several talented players move on to other programs so this does have an effect on a program. It all starts with tradition and people realizing you have to be loyal to the program if you want results.

That is exactly the issue. Coaches know what they know and believe what they believe and then they do the best they can to adjust it to the talent they have. Football is not a revolutionary sport...it is an evolutionary sport.

Coach Deaton and his staff are excellent TEACHERS and know enough football to be sucessful. But all the adjustments in the world cannot make up for a lack of talent. Sometime the pool just runs dry!

I like Coach Deaton too. He has alot of sophmores playin right now so that should help the next couple of years. IMO I dont see no leadership. I see alot of fighting among them (players) sometimes. I would like to see Lewallen have a playoff game atleast to go out on,He is a quiet leaderAnd all round good guy. Can anybody step up to be A leader on this team Next year. And who Quarterbacks Next year? Thats where it should come from.

I know I've said it a few times in here, but Dayton fans shouldn't get too down yet. They have 2 very much winnable district games in Bishop Brossart and Walton on their schedule. Bishop Brossart beat Walton and Dayton gave Ludlow all they could handle. Ludlow handed it to Brossart so that tells you they have a chance!

It is what it is Dayton, Ludlow, Bellevue are small cities that are very limited in area. You can't coach kids you don't have. Every so ofter your going to have a really good team. ON the flip side every so often your going to have a bad team. Bishop, Beechwood, are school that can draw from much larger areas than the city limits, and Walton is in an area where growth is possible. Keep supporting your team win or lose. It's hard to put competitive teams on the field every year when your good football players have the choice to attend another school both public and private.

Look at the number of kids Dayton has to work with. I beleive there are just over 200 kids in the High School. This is the smallest school with a football team in NKY. I am sure Coach Deaton is doing the best he can with what he has to work with.

If I were Dayton, I would change the schedule and add a couple of non district 1A schools to the schedule. Get a couple of games on there you can count on winning every year (hopefully). That will give your program some sustainable momentum even in the down years. Leave a couple of the 2A schools on there and maybe a Pendleton County game like you have. That will give a chance to get some challenging games in the up years. Look what scheduling has done for Brossart's program.

The higher ups at Dayton wont let them travel past Grant Co. Because they have the worst Superintendent in the state and the highest paid one too. Money, Money, Money
