BigSpikes Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Let's have it. I'm not asking who the Heisman favorite is, but who you think is the best player in the country. My best player(s) is a tie between Tim Tebow of Florida and Eric Berry for Tennessee. What say the rest of BGP Nation
futurecoach Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I don't say Tim Tebow. Even before his injury he was not playing like the best football player in college this year IMO.

futurecoach Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 "Who is the best player" and "Who has had the best year" are different questions. Players change from year to year. A person might have been the best person one year, and the next year he might not be the best anymore. That is really nothing new, it happens a lot things do change. A person might stay the same or get worst, while other have gotten better and have passed him when it comes to who is the best.

futurecoach Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 So who do you think is the best player in the country? I think the best player on their team and has been the best player for the last two years is Spikes. I would put Spikes ahead of him when it comes to best in the country. Some others off the top of my head that I would put in front of him would be Oklahoma States WR, Taylor the safety for USC, and the runningback from Cal. When I think about naming the best player in the country, I think of who I really think are the best. Not who might be on the best team or surronded by the best players. Honestly I think you could put Washington's QB on Florida's team and they would still be just as good. He can run the ball, and IMO is a better passer than Tebow. If you remember the one thing people have been talking about this year about what they are worried about for Florida is the passing game and how it has not looked that good so far.
2 Humped Camel Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Terrence Cody from Alabama is really good and will be a very high draft pick. He's in the trenches so he doesn't get the hype.

Tebow might go down as the greatest college football player of all-time. I don't think this little "players change" stuff really applies to him. Hasn't he proven himself? Just my thoughts. Tebow gets my vote.
Hearsay Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Robert Griffen from Baylor (now out for the year) and Taylor Mays at USC.
UKMustangFan Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Tebow easily. He will be known as the best college player to ever play the game after this season... And before someone starts, how can you argue with a guy that will have 3 national titles and 2 hesimans under his belt? Berry and Mays are far and away the best 2 defensive players in the country though.
5wide Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Taylor Mays is an absolute beast. He could be the next game-changing safety a la Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu to enter the league. Some team is going to be really happy to get him next year. It's amazing how safety has evolved from a position where you put guys who weren't good enough or were to old to play corner, to one of the most important positions on the defensive side of the ball. A great safety can impact the game as much as anyone on defense. Eric Berry is a stud too. I lean toward Mays, but in all honesty, I haven't seen either of them play enough to make a fair judgment. Both have been very impressive when I have watched.
ekubum Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Tebow, didn't even realize there was an argument to be made for anyone else. His track record is second to none among current (and possibly past) players.
CatsCatsCats Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Robert Griffen from Baylor (now out for the year) and Taylor Mays at USC. Love the RG reference. He may get there one day. I'm gonna say Eric Berry and it's not even close. Just strictly offensively I'll take Tebow.
