This thread should bed merged with the "You Know You're Getting Old" thread.

I thought that as I wrote it. Though I like keeping the topic light, I really hope this thread makes a few people make that dreaded appointment!

I had one. I was like the youngest guy in there by about 30 years. The funniest part was everyone has to pass gas before they can leave. It's like the camp scene from Blazing Saddles.

:lol::lol::lol::puke:

Had one done a few years ago. Other than the prestest purge, it's a fine procedure. I don't remember a thing about it at all. In fact, when I first recall waking up on the recovery area the nurse said I'd be leaving in about five minutes. When I said, "So soon, I just woke up". She replied, "You've been awake for 20 minutes." :scared:

I had a few polyps removed but they weren't cancerous.

My wife said the Doctor came in with an Asian accent and told her, "Your husband has beautiful colon."

She said, "Doc, that's two words I never thought I'd hear together in my life. Beautiful and colon."

I must say it was one of those moments of praise I'm not sure how to take.

I am going for my first one in the next 2 weeks, by the way, another phrase I thought I would never hear, the nurse was checking my chart yesterday and said the doctor said "I have a generous prostate". Now theres something you don't hear everyday.

I thought they could do a blood test now.

You might be thinking of the PSA, a screening for prostate cancer. Same neighborhood......also a good thing to test for.

What does the PSA test not cover?

This tests scares me. Thank god I have many years to go until it must be performed.

There is absolutely nothing to be scared of. I had this procedure done last December. It only took about 20 minutes and I didn't have any pain whatsoever. It will be over before yo even know it.

The PSA is a blood test to screen for prostate cancer. It has nothing to do with colon cancer. I was guessing that that was the blood test you were talking about.

The only way to reliably test for colon cancer is the colonoscopy.

Note to self......Have wife fix a pot of beans and cornbread, the day before my first test.

The worst is drinking that crap before hand.

That's the only hard part about it, the rest is a breeze. No one should be afraid of this test.

Sorry, clear liquids only. Dont worry, the put some air in there during the test. Passing the fart test is no problem! :sssh:

You will be STARVING afterwards. Save the beans and cornbread for that!

True dat. I had the Misses take me to "Chick-Fil-A" afterwards. Put all that weight I had lost back on in that one big meal.

Right now..... I just can't put my finger on it, but something just doesn't smell right about this? :eyeonyou:

I'm 46 and have never had this done.

It was AWFUL to drink that stuff. The reaction isn't too much fun either.
