That's a bunch of crap. The David School and MMI definitely got hosed in these rankings!

 

David School never fielded a football team, Wireman. Geez, you're worse than the real AP voters!

 

I do remember MMI coming to play at Garrard County in 1988 (I was seven years old) and my dad described to me what a military school was. He said they wore uniforms and marched and shot guns at school. I had no idea what to expect when we got to the game!:lol:

Just goes to show that the AP HS poll in Ky isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It's voted on by sports writers (and all deferrence to HDE whose opinion is respected), most of the sports writers at the daily papers in KY know very little about sports, and if they do it's restricted to their own teams that they cover (obviously someone is still covering Muhlenberg South).

 

While I, too, find the AP poll sometimes more amusing than accurate, the above is a generalization that's equally inaccurate. Many of the sports writers at the dailies are quite knowledgeable.

 

And I would argue that the greatest knowledge of a team comes from SEEING THEM PLAY...and in this regard, we're all limited. You can only see so many teams a year, even if you see different teams every week...

Fun fact about Thomas Jefferson High. They were involved in the only state championship game to end in a tie - the 1971 AAA final with Flaget, 7-7.

I believe most sports writers at the daily papers do a fine job. I will agree that there likely are some homer voters (perhaps in the #9 and #10 slots) for schools in their coverage area if that team happens to have a nice record.

Flaget went to the postseason four times in school history, winning three state titles and losing a fourth by one point to Seneca in 1965. They are a very deserving #1, PepRock........even though they did have tons of advantages!

The real question we should be asking ourselves is this: Is West Anderson really that good, or are they undefeated because of their weak record???

 

And what about Cannel City?? I'm hearing from the Morgan County folks that they deserve votes... I haven't seen them play...

David School is just as worth of AP votes as Muhlenberg South - football team or not :lol:

How is Magoffin County ranked # 7. They have only played 1A and 2A schools. It is possible that they could end up 3rd or 4th in their district.

At some point in time, you have to consider a team that wins games. A lot of 3A teams can't make that claim - against even a 1A/2A schedule!

 

I'm not saying Magoffin's worthy...but they are worthy of a close eye until someone knocks them down...
