"End of Bowden Era This Year", says FSU's Jim Smith

Featured Replies

TALLAHASSEE - One of Florida State University's most powerful alums said Sunday that this should be Bobby Bowden's last season as the Seminoles' head football coach.

Jim Smith, the chairman of the university's Board of Trustees and a 1962 FSU graduate, also said it is time to eliminate any doubt about Jimbo Fisher's role and responsibilities in the program.

"My hope is, frankly, that we'll go ahead and, if we have to, let the world know that this year will be the end of the Bowden Era," said Smith....

Bowden's time is running out

I have no problem that Bowdens last year. Everyone knew that Fisher had to be the head coach by 2010. I will say as a long time fan of FSU, I am dispointed in Jim Smith. This is something Bowden should be aloud to say before anyone else. He has earned that right.

For me it will be a sad day to see Bowden not on that side line as the head caoch. I am not sure if Fisher is the right guy for FSU as head coach. I also look for Mickey Andrews to leave as well.

^^^Mickey has already said this is his last year.

Bobby needs to let someone else play, its time to step down.

I agree with Coach Buckett, that is purely calssless on the part of Smith to come out and say this. Bowden is a legend and should not be dragged through the mud before he can retire on his own (or at least make it look as if he did).

FSU is in a program meltdown. If Bowden is gone, they need to get rid of everyone, buyouts or not, and start again. They could get some very good coaches up there. No way Bowden should be run out though. Without him, FSU football would be no where.

Part of the problem is Jimbo isn't the boss and he thinks he is, you can blame the Prez and boosters for cutting Bobby's throat.

FSU needs to go after Mark Richt as next head coach. Fisher has to go. This situation has soured my mind on him.

This, I absolutely agree with. A lot of people talk about the offensive downturn for FSU. I believe it is 75% Richt moving on.

JoePa hasn't been this excited in 20 years.

I would go after one of the big named up and coming guys. Could you imagine Chris Peterson there? I think they need an overachiever, someone who will be able to win and compete with UF and the U. It's going to be hard for a coach to get a recruit in Florida now with UF on top of the world and a respectable man with a great life story in Miami. Bowden is a big draw for recruits, the next guy is going to have a little bit tougher of a time, IMO. Peterson, Kelly, Whittingham, know how to do more with less, though with the talent FSU can bring in you can't really call it less. Someone like that and I think we'll see all 3 of the Big FL. schools return to and sustain glory.

I'm hoping against hope that they go after Joker Phillips.

Richt did a nice job recruiting while at FSU. He also knows how to respect what Bowden did at FSU and would be able to embrace the past and move them into the future.

I agree that those other guys could add excitement. But not sure if they could handle a program like FSU.

Sure there is always room for an extra person to park cars on game day.

Richt isn't a bad coach, I just think he's showed he can't really get to the top. He's had the team to do it. He can recruit pretty well, I don't know if I like his chances against Urban and Shannon head to head. He has stolen a few players like the TE they brought in this year, but he's not competing for his entire class against these guys.

Ouch!

The little booth at the entrance of the Civic Center parking lot looks comfortable at 7 in the morning, though. $7 please.
