Bell County numbers are lower than that around 750.

 

Its been 8 years since I was in high school so the numbers could be drastically different now.

I know Boyle and Highlands met a few years in a row a couple of seasons back. I would love for them to renew that game. Anyone recall what the records were from those two teams in those seasons. I have no clue. I do remember those games were a pretty big deal and alot of fun.

 

 

2003 Boyle won both meetings, while 2004 Highlands won both. 2-2 in my record book.

Unless more teams move to 3A, I doubt Highlands will move down. There aren't any 3A schools in N. Ky. At the time of the last realignment, there weren't any 4A schools either. That is why Highlands was allowed to be 5A. If there aren't any 3A schools, I believe the KHSAA would allow Highlands to play in a higher class due to geography issues.

I hope Boyle stays in 4A but if they don't it doesn't matter. My biggest problem with the last two years of the Pardue era was their insignificance in the state title picture. They have recovered that and I believe they will continue to compete for the crown regardless of which class they find themselves in. :thumb:

My "guess" is that when they realign starting for the 2011 year, Highlands will be in 4A. Highlands may be a 4A school by then any way. They were one of the larger 3A schools when the last full realignment happened. Depending on what happens with their enrollment and the other schools close in size with them, they might legitimately be a 4A school. With Holmes likely to remain 4A and if CovCath continues to be a 4A school, that would be 3 4A schools in N.Ky. I could see the KHSAA adding Pendleton County, perhaps, and creating a 4 team district. Even if Highlands is a legit 3A school when they look at the numbers for the 2011 alignment, with Holmes and CovCath being 4A schools, I doubt the KHSAA will let Highlands go to 5A when they can be added to those three schools (Holmes, CovCath and perhaps Pendleton) to create a 4 team 4A district.

 

When the KHSAA went to 6 classes (which started with the 07 season), I recall being told that the Board agreed that they'd stick with the alignment for 4 years to see how things worked and let things settle in before making big adjustments. Last year (after 2 years) they only made adjustments for teams that dramatically increased or decreased enrollment.

 

I really can't imagine any school moving classes for the 2010 season unless there is something dramatically occurring.

 

If CovCath and Highlands end up in 4A in the next realignment, that would be a great class. Those two plus LexCath, Boyle, Bell and an improving Holmes. Heck, making it really sweet would be if Belfry, Mason Co and Lou Central would grow in enrollment. Plus, and it would be icing on the cake, didn't I recall hearing fans of Ashland and Johnson Central at one point stating that those two schools belong in 4A?

The largest 3A school was Mason Co with a 2 yr average of 395.0 boys.

 

If all things stayed the same, Boyle would have to drop approximately 70 boys from their enrollment and maintain that for 2 years to be even in the discussion for 3A.

 

The problem there is their current enrollment for the 08-09 year was listed as 461 boys. Since the realignment would be for the 2011 season, if the KHSAA followed past procedure, I think they would use the two year average of 08-09 and 09-10 boys enrollment as their baseline for the classifications. That being the case, the 09-10 boys only enrollment would have to be 329 to bring the 2 yr average down to 395. (Average of 461 and 329 equals 395)

 

And there is no guarantee that 395 would get them down into 3A either, that was just the previous ceiling with Mason Co.

And it looks like Highlands and Bell Co. are 4A schools also based on your numbers. Although those two are close enough to the line that they could end up being 3A, depending on enrollments there and around the state.

Bell County is the same way they are in about the middle of the pack and won't go anywhere.

According to current numbers (see link I posted above) Bell is one of the very lowest enrollments of any 4A school. I only count a couple of current 4A teams with lower numbers. They could very easily be reclassified if teams like Paducah Tilghman, Spencer County, Mason County, etc. move up from 3A.
