Why so many forfeit?

Featured Replies

Is it the flu? If so that would be tough for any team to take.

What are some of the games that you are referring to?

I'm not aware of any forfeits that HAVEN'T been due to the flu...

I know Lincoln had to forfeit due to the flu.

Bardstown scored a 2-0 win over Harrison Co. tonight. KCD did the same against Caverna.

Sports Overtime said that were 3 in the state tonight.

North Hardin Christian forfiet to Hart Co.

Harrison Co. forfiet to Bardstown

Caverna forfiet to Kentucky Country Day

Lincoln Co. forfiet to Pulaski Co.

Was this all this caused by the flu? I can understand some of the smaller schools because losing ten to fithteen players is a huge inpact, I mean Harrison Co. and Lincoln Co. should have fairly large rosters right, beening the size of schools there are?

Brossart forfeited to Elizabethtown the week prior.

If this flu thing continues, I expect the KHSAA to rule these games no contests, not forfeits.

There is a loss of revenue associated with the game not being played also. It's just a tough situation.

Can't speak for the others but Lincoln County's decision was not based on players being sick.

The School Administration shut down all the schools from mid-week to Monday including all activities to stop the spread of the flu. That includes games. When Lincoln and Pulaski could not come up with a suitable solution for both teams the Patriots had to forfeit.

My understanding is that all activities at Harrison County were also suspended.

That's what the Herald-Leader reported Wednesday.

With district seeding considerations at play in these games, I don't see how they can not consider them forfeits. If they go and say the games are not forfeits, then it creates a myriad of messes in terms of the playoffs.

So then being sick is a double-whammy!

I do agree it would have an impact to not call them forfeits, but at the same time it may not have a huge impact on playoffs (other than seeding) with nearly all of the teams going into the playoffs in the first place.

If that did happen, it could make the first round a little interesting, imagine having a number 4 beat a number 1 on a regular basis because the #4 team had to forfeit district games, even though they were a better team.
