How about if I say it this way, I don't buy concert tickets to listen to the bands political diatribe.

 

I don't tune into "Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, or Coulter", to hear them sing.

 

I don't tune into a political debate to watch them dance.

 

My point is only that we all have opinions and beliefs. Just because I sunk the winning free throw to win the game, does not mean that when they stick the mike in front of me, that I spew my political beliefs. Or am I off base and everyone with a mike or camera in front of them, for whatever reason, is worthy of having their opinions forced on others?

No one forces anyone to listen or agree with an entertainers opinion. But it really does get under my skin when people discount other people, whatever their profession, BECAUSE of their profession.

 

Ted Nugent is successful, and his celebrity is used for the NRA's purposes. His celebrity is used to draw the attention of the public the the issues NRA feels are of concern, or important. I have no problem with that. That's what he believes in. Why his use of his celebrity less odious than those that use their celebrity for their beliefs? Why are they lambasted as mindless and lacking in the capability of making an informed decision?

 

I suspect it's simply because they don't agree with the opinions of those doing the lambasting.

 

It's a sad, sad world we live in these days. Just because someone doesn't draw the same conclusion, or hold the same opinion as another, does NOT mean either is lacking in intelligence or the capability of forming an opinion. Ted Nugent had long faded into obscurity by the time his outspoken political beliefs surfaced.

 

And besides, if you know a group/artist is politically active, why buy the concert ticket if their beliefs bother you?

You have to give credit to Clooney and Ashley Judd and most of the Kentucky entertainment stars that are 'politically involved' for being mostly fair and not being haters or bashers. Clooney even spoke up for Palin when the attacks started on her family.

 

What got the Chicks roasted is that they went into mindless attack mode in a foreign land during a time of war. Too bad Brad Pitt and Sean Penn dont by thousands of their albums since that is the mindless Hollywood crowd that they seemed to be trying to impress with their remarks.

 

You can be liberal, you can even take some shots and the CIC if you are in the US. But attack the President and be personally hateful, during war, in front of 1000s of foreigners - you will likely have a problem if your fan base is mostly Southerners. You have not seen a NASCAR driver pull something like that!

You are correct on your statement. Many active duty, retired personnel and families did love the Chicks. When Natalie made the statement in UK about the US President and being ashamed, she shot herself in the foot and the band in the foot. I guess she has a new gig now.

You are right! But if I am watching the Emmy's to see who won what and so one, I don't expect to get political advice from them in that venue. When they do, they are forcing their opinion on me and I cannot defend or respond. So yes they can force their opinion on folks. I don't tune into the oscars to hear Ellen talk about gay marraige! And, to your question of whether I think that people who disagree with me are incapable of forming an opinion or lacking in intelligence, I most certainly do not. I have spent my entire life in a family and environment where most do not agree with each other. I am very respectful and cognizent of the fact that, when presented with the same issue, various people of differing beliefs will draw different conclusions and opinions. I actually love the debate....as long as it's respectful and meaningful. I'm fortunate to have spent my life being encouraged to think for myself, but being questioned about the conclusions I've drawn. I respect my adversaries in debate too much to feel they aren't intelligent.

 

In my family, there is no dominant political or religious strain...or even

team allegience. :lol: My life is much the same in reality as it is on BGP.
