North Oldham 31 South Oldham 7

Featured Replies

North Oldham puts together 4 good quarters to handle cross town rival South.

The Mustangs were up 14-0 at half, and added two scores and a FG in the 2nd half. The defense was outstanding, along with an efficient offense and a sound kicking game.

What is different at South this season compared to last wasn't this game alot closer last season?

No surprise about the winner - North was the favorite - but I was surprised at the margin. Thought South's defense would do better.

North's OL and DL dominated this game and dictated everything. The offense wasn't spectacular, but made plays and the runners ran through big holes carved out by that line. Jakob Manor had two first half TD runs of 8 yards to stake the Mustangs to all the points they would need (14-0 at half).

Still a game at 17-0 heading into the fourth, but North took advantage of South miscues and field position to get two scores to put the game away. South prevented the shutout with a 1 yard run by Michael Gray with 10.2 seconds left...

South had (unofficially) just 39 yards of offense in the second half...less than 175 yards for the game...

Notes:

> A decent South line was really dominated up front.

> South opened the game by trying an onside kick. Had it worked, it might have given the Dragons a tremendous emotional lift; instead, North recovered, and South spent almost all of the first half defending their half of the field.

> South was never able to get speedster (RB) Michael Gray involved in the first half. They tried to run him outside to get him some daylight, but North did a fantastic job of stringing out plays. When they tried to run between the tackles, the veteran North line simply shut them down... Meanwhile the other primary Dragon playmaker, WR / returner R. J. Graziul, caught just two passes for two net yards.

> The Dragons threatened to score just once in the first half. But on fourth and goal at the North one with about three minutes to play, QB Christian Wallace was stuffed on a QB sneak.

> South was held without a first down in the third period and had to pretty much abandon the running game. When the Dragons became one-dimensional, the Mustangs pinned their ears back and blitzed with abandon, completely disrupting the Dragon offense.

All in all, an impressive win for the Mustangs, who've now won the last three games in the series, and lead the series, 3-2.

This was the biggest North victory ever in the series; they won the last two games each by 8 points.

North earns a date with Fort Knox next week in Goshen.

South goes on the road to open District Play at Jeffersontown.

South Oldham is bad and getting worse. Can't be the players every year. 0-10 last year and possibly 1-9 this year. Last year, no Sr. leadership, what about this year? To much support and to nice of facilities to not be the best in Oldham County. They should be able to beat both North and OC, but instead they are not even close.

This is no longer a rivalry. South continues to falter and is no longer competitive.

Congrats to Coach Martin and the Stangs!!:ylsuper:

Why doesnt North play Oldham County also?

Maybe some day just glad to see the adjustments Coach Martin and his coaching staff made are paying off on the defensive side of the ball.

Isn't South Oldham very young though? Just 8 seniors I believe.

Haven't they been using that excuse for the last 5 or 6 years? So the REAL question is where do the 25 to 30 Freshmen go in 4 years?

South has Talent.

South has Athletes

South has Size.

What are they 4 and 20 over the last three years? There is a dis-connect somewhere.

Someone said it earlier, to much parental support, to nice of facilities, for this to be allowed to continue.

Once you guys get rid of Coach Holbrook, who are you looking to bring in? Who do you see being the next head coach?

I do not know Who they should go after. It is my understanding that they have never "gone" after anyone. I was told that Bronger was the last head coach at SO that was hired with head coaching experience. I don't think anyone is trying to run this coach out, not like the last one. I don't hear of the witch hunts that were running around with the last guy.

Is anyone sure that the SO administration is upset? It is my understanding that they don't really worry about the wins and losses?

I would think that there would be a lot of interest of current head coaches who would like to go to South with all the size, athletes and facilities. I wouldn't be surprise to see Coach Martin or Coach Brown go after this job and leave their horrible facilities and non-athletic, small kids. They need to hire someone to take them back to the powerhouse days.

Wasn't Bronger the guy they ran out also? I was told the parents were spitting on him before and after the game and he was being called out by the parents after games trying to fight him.
