Don't read into my post. That wasn't what I said. I said they weeded out the ones that wouldn't buy into the program and what the coaches demanded. Happens in every program, at every school, in every sport. "No good punks" is not what I said at all...

My opinion is that some coaches and programs allow players to miss practice, not work hard during practice, etc because they think it gives them the best chance to win. Sometimes it does and it works out, but other times it bites them in the butt. Sounds like Coach Holbrook is not putting up with these things, no matter how good a player is and setting a precedent for the whole program. The great programs year in and year out have players that have bought into the idea of the "program" and work to make the program better. Not to achieve individual awards, but rather team awards.

 

?????????????? Well I guess he got rid of most of the indiviauls then if the senior classes are under 10 and the records are 4 - 20? So does he not promote individual players in the paper or whatever? I remember him tauting his QB pretty heavy in the pre-season. Does that go against what he believes? There are a lot of reasons that great programs are great. It starts with coaching / teaching. It includes commitment by players and coaches. It takes respect of both players and coaches. It takes players and coaches buying into the program. When your record is that of SO's, how well do you expect the kids to buy into it? It is easy to sell a successful program. It takes a LOT to be a successful program. I can't wait to get with my SO friends this week-end to get their thoughts.

I hope it does work out...South hasn't won more than 6 games in a season since before 2000... The PHYSICAL ingredients for a winner are there: numbers, facilities, coaching knowledge. It's tough to sell a vision, though, as Footballisking has alluded to, above. Easy when you have years of winning as your tradition. Coach Holbrook is in the same spot any SOHS coach would be in at this time - dealing as much with the mental and emotional approach to the game as with the physical aspects. I hope he's successful.

I would assume coaches get interviewed all the time but don't get to decide what goes in the paper and on the radio. Did the coach write the article or put together the radio interview? How do you know who he commented on and who he didn't? After reading the Oldham Era with their win over Waggener, his quote was, "We didn't do anything different on offense or defense, the kids just found a way to win." Sounds to me like he was promoting all the kids not one. Didn't Colmike say in another thread that Coach Holbrook has a motto at South "One-11" meaning all are included in the program? Sounds to me like you have more interest in wanting to get rid of Coach Holbrook rather than wondering what is going on at South Oldham. By the way, are your friends at SO supporters of the program or just parents of players at SO?

If I am not allowed to question what is going on when 2 of the three schools seem to be winning and 1 does not, what is it. All anyone here has ever done is blame the kids? My freinds are parents of players and supporters of getting this program back on the winning side. Col. Mike said that the program has never won over 6 games in a season. I am sure that the people around here would treat him like a god for that.

Who has blamed the kids? Who has walked away? Does a kid have to do his homework and pass the class, or can the teacher do the homework for them and give them a passing grade no matter level of math they are on? According to the state's test scores North Oldham and Oldham Co. has higher math scores than South, so I guess that proves why South Oldham loses in football.

Have you questioned Atherton, Moore, Iroquios, Waggener, Southern, Manual, Central, PRP, Eastern? They all have the same record as South and they are in the same county. They should be winning, because Fern Creek wins.

Just for the record, I said that South has never won more than 6 games since 2000... South advanced all the way to the state semi-finals in the early 1990s, when they lost to Billy Jack Haskins and Paducah Tilghman...

 

As recently as 1998, the Dragons went 8-3...so they have had some good teams.

 

I hope the Dragons win tonight, too.
