Ashland 26 Ironton, OH 12

Featured Replies

Any word on Swift and Stringer? I heard they were both injured during the game. I heard one of the Ironton players broke his leg. I pray he has a quick recovery.

It was a head injury for Swift - a cut I think.

It was Ben Stringer's knee according to his dad.

I hope both recover soon.

I had not heard about the Ironton player with a broken leg. It probably happened on the play where Sammy was taken down hard (but not that Ironton tackler). Trent Hardy and the Ironton player (that had to be helped off the field) also made hard contact on the same play. Trent was shaken up on the play too. I hope the Ironton player has a speedy and complete recovery.

One game at a time Ryan. The Tomcats will worry about them at the proper time.

Tonight is for Celebrating - a win over Ironton has been a long time coming. And this was a GOOD Ironton team - make no mistake. They were bigger than us - and fast.

That's why I think a ton of credit needs to go to Coach Hart. Ashland wasn't 14 points better talent-wise than Ironton, but he outcoached the soon to be all-time winningest coach in Ohio high school football!

Very special win Tomcats ,going to be hard to pick a BAD CAT this week.

Some awesome hitting being put on the Fighting Tigers tonight.

Congrats Tomcats from a old Tomcat, you guys played four quarters of BAD CAT FOOTBALL.

Good luck Tigers the rest of year and hope you win it all.

Absolutely! But don't under estimate the heart shown by the players - they showed tons of it tonight.

I'm just curious about Highlands because I know that's where the story will be told on Ashland's season virtually every year from here until they get out of the region they are in. I thought Ironton was awfully good, but I haven't personally seen a Highlands team play in a long time. I just wonder if they are really all that much better than Ironton or is this another potential state championship Ashland team?

It was awsome Jericho - and I had a great seat - Surrounded by friends.

Do you think they can beat Highlands this year?

Congrats to Ashland!! This was a long time coming. I'm sure all the Tomcats of young and old are enjoying this one. To answer your question though, I've had a chance to watch Highlands practice and watch one of there games and I've seen Ashland play as well on the tube. Highlands is an incredible football team. They looked even better than they were last year, IMO. Anything is possible in HS football, Ashland needs to keep getting better every week. Ashland is for real though!!

If there is one thing which typifies this group of Tomcats, it’s they play TEAM football…very unselfish, poised and determined.

What you just described is what it takes to play winning football. :thumb:

According to his father, Conner suffered a concussion and didn’t even know what team the Tomcats were playing tonight. I’m glad there will at least be game films for him to watch...I’m afraid he won’t remember too much about this evening. Get well soon Conner, we need you back in the lineup.

I hope for a speedy recovery for everyone injured in this game…there are going to be some extremely sore players tomorrow. This was a very hard hitting game…exactly what one would want from an Ashland / Ironton matchup.

I especially hate to hear about the Ironton player breaking a leg if that is indeed the case…get well soon, young man.

Very impressive win for the Tomcats.

Hart with the plays…the players with heart.

Highlands is ranked in the top 25 in the nation by some polls.

Right on Greybeard the Tomcat players played their Hearts out and if they keep improving every week we could really make some noise down the road .

One game at a time. :thumb:

This young bunch of Tomcats are playing like Tomcats of old improving each week.:thumb:

GEEEEZZZ....Enough of this Highlands stuff! :ohbrother: PLEASE!?

The Cats just beat a team which they haven’t conquered in nearly two decades….I don’t care if Ashland was going to play for a state championship next week….I want to savor this victory for a while.

Highlands football is about as close to my thoughts as how much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood….

Congrats to Ashland ! I LOVE seeing the boys from Ironton take a loss.
