Ashland 26 Ironton, OH 12

Highlands district has home field advantage so if the two meet it will be at Highlands. Congrats on the big win and I wish you luck the rest of the season.

My game observations:

Putnam stadium, in my memory, has never had 3 crowds like this to start a season, this has been an AD's dream

The crowd was large but a bit quiet I thought for such a big game

Hunter and Wetzel are 2 of the best, toughest sophs

Ashland has put on a football field, they simply have a nose for the game

What a hard hitting contest-I wouldn't have wanted to take those hits out there.

If Alber was sick, I can't wait till he gets healthy, phenominal effort:ylsuper:

Lack of kicking game hasn't hurt AHS yet, hopefully it won't, but sometime I fear it will cost the 'Cats at an inoportune time

It looked like the same old Ironton teams of the past, just 2 or 3 less horses

Number 44 has a tough game for Ironton, but he really played his heart out.

Finally, in the second half as the game was winding down, a few of us thought Ashland had worn Ironton down and the Tigers seemed to "give"-I think credit must go to Ashland's hard hitting

I hope Swift comes back strong

Didn’t really mean to come across as trying to stifle the tone of this thread…your opinion and comments ryan are typically on point and certainly you have the right to express them…

As an Ashland fan, this win is one I would like to savor for a few days within its own merit. Being a fan of high school football, I agree its compelling to speculate about all the possibilities which MIGHT lie ahead for this promising group of Tomcats. We, as fans, can afford that to do that.

However, should this team even start of thinking beyond doing their best in next Monday’s practice and preparing for Waverly (OH), it would not only be presumptuous, but quite possibly disastrous.

Ashland has not won a regional championship since 1990, and it’s been 3 years since taking the district crown. Beating Ironton was fantastic, but it doesn’t mean squat in terms of adding any more championships to this storied program.

There is more work to be done.

You have to be able to speak your own mind. I think you were asking a very good question. They have beat the best in our area. Now can they step up to the next level. Maybe it was just a little to soon for him!!

#44 for Ironton was HUGE. That dude could play. He just had an off night. I wonder if he plays basketball for them?

Don't know about the basketball but I heard that 44 is a sophmore this year, makes one wonder how much better he'll be by the time he's a senior.

I would love to see Highlands come to Ashland to play. Hope Ashland gets that far.

It can only happen if Highlands doesn't win their district. As the winner of District 6, Ashland would have to travel to Fort Thomas for the regional final if Highlands wins District 5.

The game program indicated he was a senior.

I stand corrected, and this is one time I don't mind being wrong!
