The game has been cancelled due to the flu at Bishop. They have contacted Etown and let them know of this. Just thought I would let you know

Congrats Etown. Doesn't get any easier than that.

I would say we will see more games canceled as we go along this year. It is hitting hard everywhere.

True but Elizabethtown doesn't get credit for the win, its just a cancelled game and it will just show up as just 1 less one on their schedule.

Hopefully it won't affect too many kids or too many games. Sickness is terrible for everyone.

I guess it just wasn't in the cards for Elizabethtown to play 10 games this year!

From the Kentucky Enquirer:

The threat of disease that became a talking point in area high school athletic departments in the preseason became a reality Wednesday.

Bishop Brossart school officials on Wednesday cancelled Friday’s downstate football game at Elizabethtown after a Brossart player came down with a confirmed case of the H1N1 flu. Other players on the team, Brossart principal Richard Stewart said, have similar symptoms.

Sadly, I think you're going to see a great many more stories along these lines as the school year heads into winter. It really is scary how this could take off.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling, the....................

Sad news to hear. Hope all the kids are ok.

Somehow I doubt the parents of kids that contract the disease are taking it quite as lightly.

Neither will the families of the 30,000 people who die of influenza this year.

I'm not being disrespectful, but 30,000 dieing of influenza, and less then 1,000 dieing of Swine flue is not debatable to me. This is just another thing to scare people. Simply put, get the flu vaccine and you will be a lot safer.

I have had several people that I know who got both, and they all said influenza was a lot worse then swine.

Back to the hysteria.

Ram - This outbreak is just getting started. So it really isn't valid to compare numbers at this point. While I agree that there's no need for panic, there is definitely reason to be very concerned -- and more concerned than we would be with the usual flu. Just for an example: we had a brother and sister in their 20's die up here recently from swine flu. Downplaying the situation isn't the best way to deal with this in my opinion.

Comparing it to the seriousness of the flu is irrelevent. By your theory, the flu is insignificant since many, many more people die of heart disease or cancer.

The swine flu is indeed a legitimate concern of its own. Certainly the CDC seems to think so. Of course, I assume you consider them to be a big part of the "hysteria."

Back to the topic at hand. Best of luck to the Brossart familes dealing with this issue.

We had our game cancelled this week due to a school not having enough guys to practice all week to play us because of H1N1 and the A strand of flu as well.

It will be a common theme across the country, I fear.
