Pederson was Ryles 12th man on defense tonight. Super job.

Ryle's offensive line - Funk, Settle, Delaney, Langsdale, Schild, Walsh, Nichols - is playing very well, giving Hempel time to throw and opening some nice lanes for the RB's. They deserve a ton of credit. Hempel had 4 TD's passes tonight, BTW. Very balanced attack by the Raiders. Great play calling. Defense and special teams were outstanding. Ryle's kicker Pederson was unreal - I believe he put 6 of 8 kickoffs in the end zone.

 

NCC is unbelievably one-dimensional on offense. Kelly left, QB keeper right, Kelly middle - over and over and over. The have no passing game whatsoever and it certainly helps when the defense knows a run is coming. I'm unclear why when down 5 or 6 TD's, you wouldn't at least try to work on your passing game a little. So maybe you throw a pick six - who cares, the game is already over. But just maybe you get a couple of plays to work and build a little confidence in the passing game and in the process help your running game next time out. This was definitely not the type of NCC offense I'm used to seeing.

I posted out of frustration earlier and want to apologize to the Ryle faithful for my negative comment. They were by far the superior team tonight. I wish the Raiders sucess the rest of the year. I got caught up in the moment reading the negative comments of others and resorted to the same.

Congrats to Ryle. Looks like some big heavy weight fights are looming in 6A action as the season goes on.

Ryle v. Simon Kenton will be a fun game. Very similar teams. NewCath needs to catch its breath. A blowout loss is no fun for anyone, but there is talent on this team. It's just a matter of finding an offensive identity (obvioulsy that is going to be tailored towards running the ball). Ryle was a superior team, so there's really nothing that can be said besides you can't go through the motions against a better team.

I would love to see NewCath regroup and make a run. I wager to say they are better than what we saw Saturday night. .Best of luck to the Breds and Coach S during the rest of the year

As I stated in an earlier thread, Hitchew is in a very tough position. A. He's a Sophomore, B.He played RB last year as a Freshman, and C. The last 3 QB's have lead NewCath to the state Finals. It is unfortunate that Cain's shoulder was injured so late in the summer. Hitchew would be valuable as a change of pace back. However, that's how it goes sometimes. When you couple that with how thin they are this year, the schedule they played, and the inexperience at skill positions, you have the perfect ingredients for a very rough start. I think everyone close to the program knows that this was going to be a rough year. However, that does not excuse not going 100%. Getting your butt beat happens, they must use this as fuel for the remainder of the schedule.

NCC needs to give up the spread O this year and start pounding the ball with a lead blocker. There QB can run the heck out of the ball, but isn't a big threat to pass. You need a great passing and running QB to use the spread. I say they go old school and bring in the tight ends and a fullback.

I believe that you'll see this. They did that in '06 and that is when they started to gel. I only wonder who they put at FB?

No big deal. The bulk of the NewCath community that I know wouldn't root for Highlands anyway. In fact, there is little they love more than seeing Highlands get beat. That includes some who make their living in the Ft. Thomas school system.

W/ fans like that guy, you start to see why. I got no problems w/ Highlands the program. I have a problem w/ the overzealousness. It's like UK fans. Compliment the program all you want, but Lord help you if you don't believe that they walk on water. NewCath got beat, bad. Highlands will get beat bad. Back to the Ryle-NewCath game.

IDK about the FB. I just know that good coaches adapt to the players that they have. NCC has good coaching. For there sake I hope they do somthing.:confused:

I agree that NC should trash the spread or at least work on a back up plan this year. Indeed, you must have a good passer to be effective running the spread and I did not see that Saturday night. Kelly will get yards when he has a hole and he is a tough runner. He is certainly not at the level of Travis Elliott but a very good back. I would think that NC can pound the ball effectively like they did against Madison Central vs. some of the teams remaining on their schedule. Sincere best wishes to Bob and company the rest of the year. Bob is a total class act!!
