W/ fans like that guy, you start to see why. I got no problems w/ Highlands the program. I have a problem w/ the overzealousness. It's like UK fans. Compliment the program all you want, but Lord help you if you don't believe that they walk on water. NewCath got beat, bad. Highlands will get beat bad. Back to the Ryle-NewCath game.

I agree that NC should trash the spread or at least work on a back up plan this year. Indeed, you must have a good passer to be effective running the spread and I did not see that Saturday night. Kelly will get yards when he has a hole and he is a tough runner. He is certainly not at the level of Travis Elliott but a very good back. I would think that NC can pound the ball effectively like they did against Madison Central vs. some of the teams remaining on their schedule. Sincere best wishes to Bob and company the rest of the year. Bob is a total class act!!

 

That's what is tough about Cain getting hurt so late. They didn't have time to really tailor their offense to Hitchew. He's not a passer, but he's a heck of a runner. The coaches are in a tough position, and so are the players. However, if I had to have faith in any staff it would be this staff.

No surprise including the margin. I'm going to guess that Ryle simply went with the power game and rammed it down NC's throat.

They did not ram it down NC's throat although they could have. The Raiders mixed in the passing game very effectively. Ryle did keep in the defensive starters only for one series after the clock started running in the third quarter. Not sure about that one. On the other hand, Ryle could have used their timeouts at the end of the first half and made it 38-0 at the break. Instead, Coach Warner let the clock run out and did not elect to use the 3 timeouts to get another possession.

Keep in mind one other thing besides what StraightShooter posted. Ryle had a bye the prior week. Coach Warner needed to get the starters as much time as possible going into what will be a tough game against Dixie this Friday. He pulled them halfway thru the 3rd, which was more than reasonable, and means they will have only played a little over 2 quarters in a 3-week period. It wasn't about embarrassing NCC at all - the score certainly could have been worse. It was just simply about getting them sufficient playing time.

IMO Ryle staff prevented a score of 60-70 to zero by showing considerable restraint and professionalism after suffering through a tough loss to NCC the year before.

 

Impossible to tell for sure if Ryle is that good or NCC is that bad until each has a few more games under their belts. One thing is for certain - if Ryle's passing game continues to improve they will be tough to defend.

It may have served him well to work on his 2 minute drill in a game situation. In the first half, there is no running up the score. He displayed good sportsmanship, but I believe that he missed an opportunity to work on something that his team may need down the road.

He's some disgruntled ex-player, or fan of a school that NewCath has beaten in districts, if he's concerned about them getting kids from all over. Nobody else cares.

Ryle is good, but NewCath is bad, and I don't say that out of any malice. They lost almost everything from last year, and that was a group of athletes almost perfectly suited to the schemes they'd chosen to run. I think they're just having a difficult time figuring out how to best maximize what strengths they do have. I also think they'll eventually get things righted, but that it might be a year or two before that happens.

had that much affect on NCC? It seems as though the talent may be down this year a little, but the number of players on their team has certainly dropped.

It's a cyclical. Most kids in Catholic Schools in Campbell Co will choose NewCath over Brossart. That's not meant as an insult. It's a fact that NewCath has been a state elite program for most of this decade and Brossart just started their program. Therefore there hasn't been a present impact on the program due to Brossart starting up. I think when we will see if there is an effect is when this group of Jr. High students go through now that Brossart has a JR. High team. Kids that would have played for NewCath's Jr. High may be playing for Brossart's. I believe that that will show if there is an impact due to Brossart's program.
