Ryle is good, but NewCath is bad, and I don't say that out of any malice. They lost almost everything from last year, and that was a group of athletes almost perfectly suited to the schemes they'd chosen to run. I think they're just having a difficult time figuring out how to best maximize what strengths they do have. I also think they'll eventually get things righted, but that it might be a year or two before that happens.

 

I agree. I do believe that they have a good enough line and running game to get the ship righted for 2A action this year. I don't see them beating Corbin, but I can see them winning the region.

That does seem a bit harsh considering this is the first time they've been challenged like this in a while. I do wonder though, has Brossart's program

had that much affect on NCC? It seems as though the talent may be down this year a little, but the number of players on their team has certainly dropped.

 

I've been told that this senior class at NewCath has had 15 players quit before this point. Seniors currently number 8 out of 36. That means, though it would it be the opposite extreme to say all 15 stuck around, they could be numbering 23 out of 51. The numbers are all about this class being small in numbers. In turn, thats the main reason theyre struggling right now. None of what I just said is derogatory to those 15, if thats the true number, just stating what I heard and what it means. They are very inexperienced, especially at the secondary and QB. The worst suprise though has been the defensive line as Mr. Elliot pointed out so many times as he burst right through it as if it were a wet paper bag. Yes, there are experienced players like Chris Kelly, Garrett Brown, Jake Smith, and Austin Siemer (the last 3 being seniors), but those guys are struggling to bring the whole picture together. When they do, IMO, NewCath will be back to form. They are a good team. The class of 07 I believe went through a similar pattern when they started out 2-5 and won state behind a great RB, a QB in his first starting season, and a group of receivers/DBs that really came together late and involved a lot of juniors.

Grizzly and Mex, thank you for your feedback. NCC is truly one of the class

programs in the state, and I hope and believe they'll get things on track soon.

Sometimes it only takes one nice win to breed sustainable confidence and success.

I watched the replay (what nk.sports had) last night . The sophmore quaterback is the last of NCC's problems. Every pass I saw was on target, or at least more close than half of the snaps from center. I can't see where any of the QBs I've seen this year could have done any better. The schedule this year has to have these kids down. I played on a small school team against these same big schools, and never left the field. Every time you look up there is a big kid with a clean jersey. Thier roster ,for what it's worth features 17 wide recievers out of the 32+or- that dress (aren't hurt).That doesn't leave much room for other players(linemen, linebackers). They loose more kids to other programs now than ever to Campbell County, Brossart, and even Caketown(yes even Highlands, they don't realize they'll be benchwarming behind the big recruits)

It is from the coach getting kids from the hallways in the school that in the past wouldn't have played. In regards to the kids going to Highlands, if you are born in Ft. Thomas and go to grade school there, you are either Highlands or NewCath before you are born. Ha, as a Caketown-born boy, I think you've had more and more kids becoming more unpredictable in where they go to school, including in my own family. When it comes to losing or gaining classes, dead on with the waxing and waning. Some years BBHS has a large incoming class, NCC's goes down, or vice versa. My brother already has the next three classes predicted as was the same with me when I was in high school. I'd say that has a larger influence on basketball though. NCC's not losing football players to Brossart yet, and theyre not losing them to Campbell either, just gaining. So far, 90% of the kids in Campbell Co. outside Ft. Thomas who see football as a priority have gone to NCC. Not bashing any program, thats just the way I see it. Thats tradition. After this year, potentially hinging alot on this week, more football players might look at Campbell and Brossart as being welcoming options. I would contend this county has the most interesting situation with incoming classes outside Fayette and Jefferson.

Uh, alot. Not because recruiting was involved, because my belief is it doesnt. But thats not for this discussion. But to your point I know plenty of families with one kid at HHS and one kid at NCC, including MINE.

If someone wants to talk about Ryle and NCC, they can start a new thread.
