September 15, 200917 yr Notre Dame had no margin for error now. If they lose another game, (besides USC) Weiss is done.
September 15, 200917 yr This team is so talented on the offensive side and the D is getting better. I agree another loss with this talent will be it for Weis. Then let the rumors about Kelly, Gruden, and Myer begin.
September 15, 200917 yr It appears the the injury to Floyd isn't too serious, but he did have to get 15 stitches in his knee. So, was that his knee cap that we could see when he was sitting there? :puke:
September 16, 200917 yr A team can only go so far with Charlie Weiss calling the plays. I realize he made some mistakes on Saturday late in the game. He did call a few plays up in Boston to help collect a FEW Super Bowl rings. Hats off to Michigan, they played a great football game.
September 16, 200917 yr Just throwing this out there, if ND would have run the ball up the middle and been stuffed, how many people would be mad Weis did not attempt to get a first down? Aren't we sometimes equally as critical for coaches not playing to win?
September 16, 200917 yr Just throwing this out there, if ND would have run the ball up the middle and been stuffed, how many people would be mad Weis did not attempt to get a first down? Aren't we sometimes equally as critical for coaches not playing to win? I like what Weis did. Here's the situation, plain and simple. 1. Michigan was moving the ball and scoring rather easily in that game. 2. Notre Dame could not run the ball. 3. Claussen and the passing game had been very good. So, ND fans, would you rather see your coach put the game in the hands of his best unit and what was working best that day? Or, put it in the hands of the two things that weren't working? Personally, I like it when coaches try to get that first down and win the game. Obviously, it depends on your QB and passing game. But, if you have a good one, I don't have a problem at all with trying to end the game with a first down rather than playing it safe and punting after three runs into the line. Coaches play it safe way too much, IMO. I'm not advocating becoming Hal Mumme, but I've seen teams lose just as often as not when they play it safe and force their opponent to burn timeouts. Most teams are fairly competent at a 2 minute drill, and with the sidelines and first downs, they don't have to panic. Not to mention, if you're a "play it safe" coach who runs it and forces them to burn TO's, then you're probably the same guy that goes into a prevent defense and allows them to move up the field like a Wednesday practice session. People just want to criticize and blame somebody for a loss. If Weis had gone the other way, ND would have still lost, IMO, and then he'd get ripped for not allowing his best unit to try to put the game away. Sometimes I believe coaches play it safe because they know that they won't get ripped to shreds by the media, even if it doesn't work out. The onus will fall back on the players...on the defense for not protecting the lead. If he actually goes against the grain and aggressively goes for the win and it doesn't work, it'll be all about him in the media that week.
September 16, 200917 yr Michigan QB Forcier was incredible. Poised, fast, great judgement. He is a star in the making. (& only a freshman) No, He barely threw the ball showing a huge weak spot in that aspect of the game. He scrambled 40% of the time when he dropped back, I dont see the greatness in him.
September 16, 200917 yr Huge win for Michigans football program! This progam, team, town all needed the W! Huge loss for Charlie Weiss and his program! I guess it is a big win since a should be touchdown was called back because supposively, Armando Allen stepped out of bounds, which no where in ANY replay was that visible. Also if just 2 holding penalties are not called against that great offense, they gain over 100 more yards total offense! No where was a holding when Kyle Rudolph caught that reception for 85 yards was there a hold. That would have put ND inside the ten yard line but instead it backed them up forcing them to punt deep in their own territory. Another thing that happened on that same series where Michael Floyd caught a 15 yard pass then after the play was dead he was getting up IN FRONT OF AN OFFICIAL and was pushed back down. Anywhere else that is a personal foul but not for BIG 10 REFS IN A BIG 10 STADIUM.:madman: So yes i will give all the credit to the people who deserve it, the refs!
September 16, 200917 yr No, He barely threw the ball showing a huge weak spot in that aspect of the game. He scrambled 40% of the time when he dropped back, I dont see the greatness in him. He was 23/33 for 240 yards. You saying because he scrambled for 70 yards in this game that makes him not very good? They didn't need to throw the ball alot, they got the WIN without it. But when he did throw he threw very well. That is the way Rich Rod's offense works man. Did you not see him coach at WVU? His quarterbacks did the same thing. He likes to keep his QB on the move. It opens up a threat inside of the passing game with the ability to make choices to throw or run. If Forcier was QB on a team where the QB sits in the pocket all day, I agree he may not be that great. But he's not so that arguement is irrelevant. He will still have bad games this year. That bieng due to his age and lack of experience. Did I mention he just turned 19 and is only a true freshman? Like most of this teammates are, 89/120 players on the roster are freshman and sophomores. I guess it is a big win since a should be touchdown was called back because supposively, Armando Allen stepped out of bounds, which no where in ANY replay was that visible. Also if just 2 holding penalties are not called against that great offense, they gain over 100 more yards total offense! You saw the same game I did. The refs had a hand in this one. I don't understand how you can play almost mistake free football against Neveda and be so undisiplined against Michigan a week later. Don't get me wrong, Michigan did what they needed to do but c'mon.:ohbrother:
