How do these fringe players, who by the way exist on both sides, support your comment? You give the leading media clown and individuals at protests as examples? These types have always existed, they're just getting more face time given the internet and cable need to fill time.

I do agree that our nation is becomming more and more politically fragmented. I just think all we need to do is look at who we elect as shining examples.

 

While they may have always "existed" they have never had the platform that they currently have. No different than Cindy Sheehan. 20 years ago it would have been very difficult for much of the nation to know anything about them.

 

I also disagree that they are "fringe." You can't have the leading voice of the conservative movement leading the charge without believing it has some influence on the troops.

I agree about the platform, as I stated in my post. I also think most of the people who listen to Rush do know that he is an entertainer who often makes some valid points, albeit in a very controversial way. Don't know where you got that he is the leading voice of the conservative movement. Only place I really hear that is in the democrats talking points. We have a lot of conservatives on here. See how many think he's the voice of us.

Then let me ask. Who is the voice that's driving conservative thinking? He has way too many listeners to think he doesn't have a lot of influence.

Sure he has a large audience but how many are tuning in for amusement? How many to catch him saying something they can youtube? How many to use something to support an argument they want to present? I daresay his influence is not nearly what his audience is, not even close.

They were applauding the fact they didn't pass the SS legislation that Bush put forth. It's not like Bush said something they liked and were applauding him for it.

The term "liberal" ALWAYS bothered me, as liberal used to stand for economic freedom (see Friedman, Hayek, Mises, etc.) So I'll gladly let our left-leaning brothers call themselves progressive. I don't why you want to be- everytime I hear progressive, I think of that incredibly annoying girl from Progressive insurance commercials.
