I'm saying that a school bus (gas/equipment) should not be used for such a trip, whether it be to a baptist or catholic church or a muslim mosque or a jewish or Buddhist temple. ANY school trip requires granting permission of the parents for the student.

Sounds like boys were aware of the destination. I'm goin to say if my 16 kid wants to go church, I'm fine with that and no he or she doesn't need my permission. Believe most kids these age are doing a lot worse without mommy's permission.

School buses are often used to transport public school kids to such events...even if the club pays for the bus. I participated in FCA, and never told my parents about it. Should my Mom have sued? We're talking about a 16 year old young man. We should be excited that this young man chose religion over drugs and beer! I applaud coach Mooney. If the boy volunteered to go, and felt that he needed to be baptized, then hooray for him and ALL OF GOD'S PEOPLE. If he is persecuted for this, then that is his tribularion and cross to bare...I would gladly stand by him. Wow, I mean really. A coach takes kids to church (of their own free will). Keeps them off the street. Out of meth labs and bedrooms getting girls pregnant. Say what you want, but he's a first class guy in my book and more mom's should be thanking him. I heard him speak at FCA clinic last year and more than 15 kids dedicated their lives to Christ that year. Sounds like he's doing good things...we could all stand to do good things.

A school bus is owned by the school and the driver that drives it is an employee of that school (must be, legally). I certainly agree that getting the boys into church is a fine thing. Their baptism is a fine thing (though I question it happening on their first trip). However, school funds (even if it is just bus maintenance) should not be used to cover the trip. The church bus, or congretation members, should have picked up the kids if transportation is necessary.

The Coach is going to take the team to a strip club? What young boy wouldn't want to go and you know he isn't going to tell mommy. The Coach is going to take the team to a Sports Bar? He isn't going to take them to drink but a kid gets a beer from someone and the coach says but I didn't buy it for him so what the problem. The Coach is going to take the team to a R rated movie? Hey it only a movie whats the harm? The Coach is going to take the team to a Catholic Mass. Now hold on there, how dare him. Should I go on! The coach and the pastor knew or they should have know that without the parents permission they had no right to do it, no matter the good intentions.
September 7, 200917 yr He will be fired I am sure. He was wrong for what he did and should pay for it. Fired? Really? I can see some type of reprimand, along with something saying the next time will result in termination, but this doesn't seem like a fireable offense to me personally.

No doubt that he is doing a good thing by getting kids to church. Use of the bus, however, was a mistake. The ends don't justify the means here.

Most of the stuff you mention is illegal for 16 year olds. Huge difference. We have to quit treating young adults as if they are 5 year olds. Whether you like it or not, it is good that these kids make decisions without mommy wiping their noses 1st.
