Anyone know the results from the Holmes vs Scott freshman game? How did the teams look?

Is Scott ever going to turn around their football program? Do they just not care in Taylor Mill???

Those are the same thoughts I had when I saw this score. It really is hard to figure out why Scott can't get it together in football when all their other sports teams do pretty well. It is a topic for another thread but I just wonder if the open enrollment policy in Kenton County has an impact on Scott football.

Now I had heard that Scott had dropped their freshmen program because of a lack of numbers - so was this a game involving both freshmen and sophomores or did Scott build their numbers up?

What middle schools feed Scott? Do those middle schools field teams in the middle school league?

Woodland is the middle school next to Scott.

It boggles my mind..Who knows?? I know the Raiders of the NKYFL feed their system..

I'm 99% sure that Scott does not have a JV team this year due to lack of numbers. How in the world can a 5A school no thave enough interest?

 

With that said, lets give a big shout out to every single Scott Eagle wearing the team colors and busting their humps in what appears to be a bad situation.

I think the only way Scott is going to turn things around is get into this middle school program with both feet. Get involved with the schools that will feed Scott, tie them to Scott mentally and make those teams experience some success. You get a core of youngsters to experience success and buy in that they can turn it around and it may happen.

The Open Enrollment policy really hurts Scott in that aspect as they are the bottom end of the spectrum in Kenton County as Dixie and Simon Kenton do get a fair number of players that would normally play for Scott but choose to play for one of the other schools.

Woodland Middle School is the main feeder of Scott with some players as well coming from Summit View. However, for some reason, the best of the bunch (or at least most) will choose to go to Dixie or SK via the Open Enrollment policy.

This is somewhat true. Scott does get a few players from the Raiders but the vast majority of them are feeders for Covington Catholic Dixie, at least thats how I understood it years ago when my son was apart of the Raiders. He played with a group where most of them did end up going to Dixie or CCH.

Scott tries to do just that! The high school coaches for Scott will often get involved with Woodland's program but for some reason it still hasn't translated into any success, nor has it seemed to keep any players that were on the fence between Scott and another school.

 

 

 

IMHO, I think Scott needs to get out of the small school division for NKY football. It sends a bad message IMO to the players as it says that we aren't good enough to compete with the big boys and have to resort to playing smaller schools. By playing with the bigger and better schools, you will learn what it takes to win those type of games and you will improve much more by playing the better competition! Scott gets nothing out of playing the smaller schools except a lowering of morale. Maybe I'm by myself in this one but the program has to take a step in the right direction and I think by playing the bigger schools (even if you don't win a game) it will only help your team and it will set a bar for the team as to where they need to be to compete!

I think the new coach at Scott has started to turn things around at the middle school level which will hopefully translate into some success down the road but there are no quick fixes in Taylor Mill.

 

Open enrollment has not helped Scott as both Simon Kenton and Dixie have far superior facilities and a track record of success with their football programs. Your football players and multi sport athletes have steered away from Scott for some time now.

 

Recent success of basketball team has helped to keep the basketball players coming to Scott but has not helped with football program yet.

 

I think construction of new facilities at Scott is in the very near future and that can only help as they compete for the younger athletes.

 

Hopefully the current group of middle schoolers will be the groups that bring Scott to a different level.

Its quite possible but I doubt it will ever happen. I don' think the administration at Scott would EVER let that happen. Scott's actual numbers at the school are actually droppin gas we speak and there is a possibility that they may be reclassified as 4A school in the near future based on their enrolllment numbers. That being said though, I'm not sure if the KHSAA would then let them play in 4A as it would leave the 5A NKY district with 3 teams in it. I think Scott is here to stay... at least for the next few years or so.

No chance they give up football. They will be getting a big time facility upgrade within the next year that will hopefully give them an opportunity to at least keep kids from their own district. Even with sub par teams Friday night home games generate a lot of revenue.

 

I would imagine the decison to not play a JV schedule was based on last years experience of not being able to play some scheduled JV games due to lack of healthy bodies. I think overall numbers are up at Scott as far as participation in football but instead of trying to cobble together a varsity and JV team thru a whole season they just decided to play a varsity schedule.
