Holmes 38 Scott 0 (Frosh)

Its quite possible but I doubt it will ever happen. I don' think the administration at Scott would EVER let that happen. Scott's actual numbers at the school are actually droppin gas we speak and there is a possibility that they may be reclassified as 4A school in the near future based on their enrolllment numbers. That being said though, I'm not sure if the KHSAA would then let them play in 4A as it would leave the 5A NKY district with 3 teams in it. I think Scott is here to stay... at least for the next few years or so.

If Scott were to drop to 4A, I think you would see CovCath and HHS dropping down to 4A also, then you would just be back to last years 5A sans Dixie with HHS, CovCath, Holmes and Scott. Remember CovCath and HHS are not 5A sized schools either. Now what would happen to Dixie? Maybe move to 6A or travel a lot in 5A!

Good observation.

There is some misinformation in this thread, let me see if I can answer some of the questions and correct a few things.

First, yesterdays score was 28-0 NOT 38-0. Not that it matters much but lets be fair to the kids. Secondly, Scott's Freshman team has 28 players and all are Freshman. There are no Sophomore's on the team. The reason Scott will not play a JV schedule this year is because the JR class numbers are down (12 players). When these Jr's were Frosh. Scott had to cancel part of the season because they didn't have enough kids to field a team. With the JR numbers being low, Scott has to play and start probably more Sophomores than they would like at the varsity level.

The middle school program is improving. Coach Campbell is involved with the middle school program. He wants the Woodland kids to come to Scott and play football. I do know that Coach doesn't have a lot of interest in dropping to 4A. He wants to be in this district. He realizes its going to take some time to turn this program around and IMO, if he can't do it, it can't be done.

IMHO, I think Scott needs to get out of the small school division for NKY football. It sends a bad message IMO to the players as it says that we aren't good enough to compete with the big boys and have to resort to playing smaller schools. By playing with the bigger and better schools, you will learn what it takes to win those type of games and you will improve much more by playing the better competition! Scott gets nothing out of playing the smaller schools except a lowering of morale. Maybe I'm by myself in this one but the program has to take a step in the right direction and I think by playing the bigger schools (even if you don't win a game) it will only help your team and it will set a bar for the team as to where they need to be to compete!

You bring up a lot of good points and I respect your opinion. BUT, you knew there was a "but" coming, didn't you?:p I disagree with the above statement. I know for a fact, that playing in the Freshman small school division is not hurting morale at Scott. These kids look forward to playing NCC, Beechwood, Newport and the other teams on their schedule. What does hurt morale is the inability to win. These kids have no confidence. Once they learn how to win, they will gain the confidence they need to play at a higher level. Right now playing in the big school division and getting your brains beat in by 50 points every Thursday evening is the last thing this program needs in order to move forward.

A few details many might not know

1) Scott is getting new facilities starting at the end of this football season. When complete it will be the best complex in NKY. It should take Dixie's spot as the top of the line.

2) Woodland Middle School: The middle school program at Woodland has been extremely bad up until the past year or so. Last year's HC is now the varsity HC at Walton. I know the talent level is way up for the middle school team. Coach Campbell also started having the MS team lift last year.

Scott is having issues becuase it is a complete program overall which is going to take a few more years. This is Coach Campbell's 2nd year I believe and it is going to take him some time to get things in line. He has a good staff that know their stuff, can teach and love the kids.

I know Woodland's MS school team is pretty good against thier competition this year (atleast their A team- Im not sure about the B team). With Woodland being on the same campus as Scott, I would assume that most of these kids would go to Scott. Hopefully this means good things for Scott's future.

I believe the A team is 1-1 and the B team is 2-0.

A good majority do but they always seem to lose a few when these kids enter high school and it always seems to be some of the best of the whole crop too.

The kids from Taylor Mill not only have the option of open enrollment but you see a lot of athletes going thru the public school system and participating the programs and then ending up at Holy Cross or Covington Catholic.

As previously stated Scott frosh lost 28-0 to Holmes not 38-0. Holmes was low on numbers and brought down sophmores, Scott played all freshman. Holmes was up 6-0 and driving in the red zone when they fumbled and Scott recovered right before half. Scott had it 4th and long with seconds left on the clock and threw an int which Holmes returned for a TD and converted the extra point. 14-0 at half. Scott moved the ball well but just couldn't punch it in. Had multiple red zone possesions and were unable to come away with a td and holmes capatilized. Scott has a lot to work on but i think these kids can come away with a few victories this season. As far as the future of Scott football, Coach Campbell is building and trying to get the confidence up in the program. I think he is taking steps in the right direction.
