September 3, 200917 yr Agreed, but on the flipside.....those who are trying to create "intelligent movies" generally are praised by critics regardless of what the final product looks like, just because of what they are trying to do. For example, the critics love anything and everything that the Coen brothers do. Don't get me wrong, they've had some good flicks- Miller's Crossing, The Ladykillers, Fargo, and Burn after Reading- but movies like Barton Fink and No Country for Old Men get praised based on what the Coen brothers try to do, not what they actually produce. I was referring to the comedies in that one, I don't really think that No Country for Old Men really fits that bill. I know my sense of humor is a bit different and sometimes offbeat but even so I don't think that one is a comedy.

I'm just saying that anyone who tries to make an "intelligent movie" is always praised, regardless of the final product. Then I went off on my Coen tangent. Just ignore me.

September 4, 200917 yr Some have talked about how much better Will Ferrel is at a bit part guy rather than the headliner. These are the movies that I would define as him being the headliner: Land of the Lost - Terrible Step Brothers - Overrated, but with funny moments Semi-Pro - Terrible Blades of Glory - Terrible and irredeemable Talladega Nights - AWESOME Stranger Than Fiction - Not a comedy per se, but good Kicking & Screaming - Terrible Bewitched - Terrible Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy - AWESOME Elf: Terrible He's basically had two great comedies as a headliner, one decent one as a comedy/drama-ish actor, one that was sorta funny but not nearly as funny as some make it out to be, and then six, gawdawful, make you want to blind yourself and cut off your ears terrible movies that you couldn't PAY me to watch again. Meanwhile, can you think of a single movie where he wasn't THE guy that he wasn't freaking hilarious? Also, as an aside, doesn't it seem like Blades of Glory almost completely ruined Jon Heder's career?

Elf was quite funny, and Blades of Glory wasn't as terrible as some made it some.

Though I personally put Talladega Nights and Anchorman into the same category as Step Brothers...and I quite enjoyed Stranger Than Fiction. In my mind Will Ferrell is made for the roles he played in Old School, Wedding Crashers, and shows like Eastbound & Down...not for the lead in a comedy.
