September 2, 200917 yr Reason has been given more than a few times. Why do you think it wrong of anyone to want to know what he will address them with? What happened to transparency? Your reasons make no sense. Your reaction is one of fear of the unknown. The "it's never been done before" reason doesn't have any merit. It's like the "because I said so" answer to "why can't I?" Doing the same thing over and over and over, and expecting different results is insane. Obama is doing something that's never been done before. According to bugatti's post, his reasons are stated. Why not just accept it? Why does everything have to be a drama?
September 2, 200917 yr I do not either, rockmom. If the President is going to be regurgitating his health bill and deliver Democratic talking points, sure there might be something wrong. But let us be honest here, he will talk about the importance of staying in school to get a good education while being engaging. I cannot see a whole lot of indoctrinization going on here guys. Maybe I am wrong. I somewhat appreciate the reaching out to children, a demographic I believe is largely ignored and given 0 credit. As Bill O'Reilly's book says, "Kids are Americans Too." I don't see anyone on here getting upset in the least. Again, what's wrong with a parent or a teacher wanting to know what the subject matter will be? What would be wrong with him addressing them in the evening with their parents present? For some reason, which I can't understand, no one wants to answer these two questions.

Why is it that because someone questions Obama, it's always "fear" with you? Concern does NOT = fear.
September 2, 200917 yr Been explained. Again, the explanation is baseless. There's no harm in admitting our mistakes, whether he points them out on American soil, or on foreign soil. The mistakes are the same, no matter where they're admitted.
September 2, 200917 yr RM, why is it that you will point out that I "rail" against Obama, yet you NEVER have one negative thing to say about Obama. Do you honestly agree with everything he's done so far? You say my reasons make no sense. Why? What is wrong with a parent knowing what he's going to talk to the children about? What's wrong with him addressing them in the evening when their parents are with them? :idunno:

What's wrong with him addressing them in the evening when their parents are with them? :idunno: First, you are wildly opposed to anything Obama, and have yet to be openminded and objective about anything Obama since well before he even had the Democratic nomination. I've never seen one post that was in any way, shape or form an attempt to do anything other than spread talking points and fearmongering. You're not alone in this, but since you asked.... I honestly don't agree with everything. But I never expected to. See, I've always taken the approach that there will never be anyone that I agree with completely. But some battles are worth the effort, and some aren't. Frankly, many of you feel that EVERYTHING has to be a battle if Obama is involved. I don't think so, myself. Even with Bush, my effort was in arguing our actions in Iraq. There were other things I either agreed with him on, or just didn't care one way or another. As to people wanting to know what Obama is saying to their children, bugatti's post suggests the reasons are clear. You've yet to acknowledge that. Yet, you rail against the very idea of the President addressing school children. I don't think there's anything wrong with him addressing them at anytime of the day. To me, it makes logical sense to address them during the school day when they are likley to be together in a focused setting. Given that there are so many disinterested adults, and we bemoan the fact that there are so many uninformed voters, I personally wouldn't think that we'd have too much expectation that parents would get their kids to watch. Then, you have kids who are in sports and other extracurricular activities and you then have even more complications. If the President wants to speak of the importance of staying in school, logically, it would make sense that he addresses them while they are IN SCHOOL. Really...no big deal....unless you're a conspiracy theorist.
September 2, 200917 yr  That's your opinion. Many disagree, including me. I'm shocked....simply shocked, I say.
September 2, 200917 yr To the first part, I try and be as helpful as possible...it's just in my nature. To the bolded, I believe it's quite naive that Americans aren't going to have a biased view of history (especially their own). Do I need to put the definition of biased on here? I agree history is written by those who win wars..... That is another problem I have Democrats have gotten to a hold of our history books, someone on here had the article of how we are getting away from the founding fathers etc......... One question Obama wants the kids to right down is "What does he want you to do?" or something similar...........vote liberal is the answer............

If the President wants to speak of the importance of staying in school, logically, it would make sense that he addresses them while they are IN SCHOOL. Really...no big deal....unless you're a conspiracy theorist. Actually, I gave him credit for signing the bill to allow guns in national parks. That puts me one ahead of you I don't give a rat's patoot that he wants to address them, I think it's only right that parents know what it's about first. Why, in the good Lord's name, would you have a problem with that? If I had a kid in school still, I'd like to know, considering I disagree with most of his views. For instance, I wouldn't want him speaking to my kids about Cap and Trade or Global Warming. I wouldn't like that leftist nonsense being crammed down my kids throat. Would you have liked Bush speaking to school kids about terrorism, abortion or family values? Somehow I doubt it.
September 2, 200917 yr To those defending Obama I have one question - If he brings up national healthcare in the speech will you admit he shouldn't have done it? That it might have been indoctrination?
September 2, 200917 yr That is another problem I have. Democrats have gotten to a hold of our history books, someone on here had the article of how we are getting away from the founding fathers etc......... Ahold of our history books? Getting away from the founding fathers? This is comical. Many of the founding fathers were deists and slaveholders. We teach that now because it's true. It always was true, but that colored the myth of American foundation; the one of how they all worshipped in church every time the doors were open and their slaves were happy to have a job on such a nice farm.
September 2, 200917 yr For instance, I wouldn't want him speaking to my kids about Cap and Trade or Global Warming. I wouldn't like that leftist nonsense being crammed down my kids throat. Would you have liked Bush speaking to school kids about terrorism, abortion or family values? Somehow I doubt it. I would hope he wouldn't speak about cap and trade and/or global warming because most of the students wouldn't have a clue what he's talking about. Of course based on the discussion on this site and on talk radio, it would likely do a lot of good for many adults to hear that speech. Because many feel very comfortable arguing and complaining, although few have a clue what's even been discussed. I would imagine this speech will be encouraging the kids to stay in school. He will talk about the benefits a degree will hold for them and how they can help the country by working rather than dropping out. You mention Bush; how many times did he speak that he didn't mention terrorism? If he spoke at my school I would imagine that he would mention it. And that would be fine. I honestly wouldn't care if he spoke about abortion or family values either. He's the president - talk on! That doesn't mean I have to agree. But it seems that everyone believes that whenever the president talks everyone will immediately stop, listen, and change their opinion right there on the spot. Unfortunately, both the far left and far right believe that any inch given is an inch that can't be got back. And a talking, liberal president guarantees listening, liberal students. That's a monster leap if you ask me. Most people listen to both sides and make an informed decision based upon the facts at hand. Not all are sheep who blindly follow everything Rush, Sean, Keith, and Rachel tell them.
