Do You Use the Word "Irregardless?"

Featured Replies

I have since been educated on the spell check tool on BGP. I look forward to using "more bigger" words in upcoming posts!

OH! It makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up! I'm far from perfect, but the irreg....word along with 'ascertain'. Nothing wrong with that word, but I am close to someone who uses it daily to appear intellectual. Now, it infuriates me just to hear it, no matter who is saying it.

I just used the word 'regardless' twice in the last hour and thought back to this thread.

Thats all I got.

Thanks.

The one that I see all the time is alot. Try looking that one up in the dictionary.

I remember the day well.

I was in 7th grade. Our teacher made everyone take out a piece of paper. She told us to write "a-l-o-t" on the piece of paper.

We did.

She then told us to tear the piece of paper in between the "a" & "l".

We did.

Now, you have a piece of paper that says "a" and "lot". Remember kids, "a lot" is two separate words. Quit using it as one word. Now get up and throw the "a" in one trash can. Walk around and throw "lot" in another.

I don't think I had a problem at the time, but I haven't used "alot" since. I can know that much.

I can't stand when people, mainly guys, use "lol" I just think it's a girl's word and even then it irritates me. I've only read something in a text, instant message, e-mail, forum post etc. that has made me "laugh out loud". I also can't stand "JK", how hard is it to type 'ha ha' or 'just kidding'?

I seen my team loose a game onced.

I'm officially afraid to post at this point; my entire vocabulary is being attacked! :D

For the record this male has never once used "lol."

When I use "alot," it's usually a typo or I'm just in a hurry. Happens quite a bit though.

I hate a comma splice.

Poor punctuation makes it impossible to read things for me.

A once active, member on this board was, terrible about it. :D

I'll never forget my sixth grade teach responding to "I'm done with the test" with "Turkeys are done; people are finished." Few sources even recognize the distinction anymore. The nuances in the differences in use between "done" and "finished" are interesting though. Someone has since told me that "done" was once considered too informal for the written page or academic use and that's where the rule came from.
