IMO, it is pretty clear that our Founding Fathers intended for us to have every right to bear arms, and these guys are just expressing that right, before President Obama takes it from us.

It was in support of the 2nd Amendment, which is under attack by this administration.

How do you know it was for intimidation? Maybe they were protesting Obama's stance on gun-control...

 

I'm sorry was he giving a speech on gun issues at this event.....No it was a health care event and it is becoming more common to see firearms being brought to health care events. If it is not intimidation then what is the reason?

How is this position different than say GWB's?

Not meaning to cast the only "?" on this but, "Wasn't Hinkley 'outside the venue' when he shot Reagan?"

I know he probably could not even get into eye sight of the President but whose to say a nut job isn't watching these events and thinking, "If I could only get a little closer . . ."

Fromme didn't shoot at Ford . She didn't even know how to use the gun . Sara Jane Moore did get one shot off at the President though .

Maybe it is just taboo, but something just does not feel kosher about carrying an assault rifle around. I will be the first to admit if I see someone with an assault rifle just casually walking around, I am going to take notice.

However I'm not aware of any legislation being put fourth by his administration or any that has been suggested or there being even an eyelash of a difference between his position and say GWB's. So absent any pending or proposed legislation about gun ownership rights being "taken from us" or being "under attack by his administration", I'd conclude that bringing firearms to events about health care that are already highly charged and meant for political discourse is for nothing more than an intimidation factor. Which IMO shows irresponsible gun ownership.

Ahh, I didn't read your post where you said "different from GWB's."

 

I don't quite remember RTS and his 2nd Amendment-o-philes criticizing Bush's stance on guns (although I also don't remember Obama's loyal fan base supporting Bush's gun stance either).

 

Regardless, even if these gun rights dudes are hypocritical in their lack of response to Bush's statements, does that negate the legitimacy of their protest? Essentially, if I said 2+2=5, would that mean that my statement "3+3=6" is wrong? I understand where you are coming from- pointing out their hypocrisy- but it doesn't mean that President Obama hasn't (at least once) supported "assault rifle" restrictions. (Keep in mind that I'm not arguing the legitimacy or illegitimacy of these restrictions as your formulate a response)

 

I'm not sure why I'm actually commenting on this, because gun rights is far from my forte and one of the less important issues to me, personally.
