August 20, 200917 yr Man you pro gun guys amaze me. I'm not anti gun either, but you guys standing up for this guy rockmom bumped into amazes me. What if she accidently knocked him down, I suppose he has the right to blow her away. Totally ridiculous assumption by you. Absurdity isn't helping your argument. No one here said any such thing and it's silly to assume that, had she knocked him down, that he'd start firing. That's a prime example of the paranoia of some about gun owners and those with CC that I'm talking about.
August 20, 200917 yr If I had been in rockmom's shoes, that situation would have ended very badly for one of us.
August 20, 200917 yr I feel I need to step in here and clarify something that Rockmom didn't emphasize enough; she is way off base in regards to the gun owners intentions. The guy WASN'T pulling his weapon on Rockmom. He was simply defending his cookies! Trust me, if you've had one, you would know why! :sssh: Also, I was under the impression that all guns, knives, and anything that could conceivably be called a weapon were banned in Louisville from Eastern Parkway to Broadway! ::confused: I have no idea about the ban....but the guy was real, and the guy had a gun. The cookies...I agree they're awesome.

August 20, 200917 yr That's my point. Does no one realize that I didn't see him as well, so I just as easily could have felt threatened by someone who was suddenly in my path? What if I'd have hauled off and hit him with my umbrella upside his noggin. I'd be accused of assaulting an innocent sidewalk walker. But because this guy has a gun, his rights to that space supercede mine, because I somehow threatened him. To me, if I'm a pedestrian (and I am a lot), I pay attention to what's going on around me. If I'm walking past a bus stop and there's a behemoth bus stopped, I naturally assume that someone will be getting off the bus. Since the usual course is to exit via the rear door which offers little in the way of unobstructed visibility, I would assume that the person getting off may not see me walking up. It's not just for them, it's for my own personal safety. These posters are defending him because he had no idea who I was, or my intent. Yet somehow, I should have known his intent, and that he was harmless. If you have a gun, you must be an upstanding citizen. If you have a gun, your safety trumps those without. If you don't have a gun, it's your responsibility to make sure you don't give even the slightest possible, even unintended, reason for that person to use their gun. I get it....the illusions of gradeur aren't on my part. I guess the fact that the guy actually DID have his gun halfway withrdrawn mean that I imagined a threat because I think so highly of myself. Look, my point is that he didn't point the gun at you. If he pointed it at you, I could see your point. If he threatened to shoot you for bumping into him, I'd totally agree with you. If I bumped into you and you started to raise your umbrella, I wouldn't have felt "threatened", but if you swung it that changes things. No different with the guy starting to pull his gun and then realizing you were no threat and stopping. Putting a slant to it like you just did makes no sense since no one said all gun owners are upstanding citizens, gun owners safety trumps those without guns or that simply because you bumped into him he would have had the right to use his gun. I'm still curious what your point was when you said "RTS already said he walked around his neighborhood with a 22 on his shoulder".
August 20, 200917 yr This conversation is way, way over the map. Are we discussing the right to carry weapons; the logic behind bringing a gun to a healthcare reform; the logic behind carrying a gun and grabbing it when someone bumps you on the street; what President Obama has done in regards to guns, or what he will do, or what he has said; if gun owners' right to space supercedes non-gun owners, or what? I don't think anyone here is arguing about the same things. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
August 20, 200917 yr What about the paranoia of gun owners who assume everyone around them is out to get them? Wow.
August 20, 200917 yr What about the paranoia of gun owners who assume everyone around them is out to get them?I simply don't see it. I think that's a fabrication, and I know a lot of gun owners. You have a dog, do you own that dog because you think everyone is out to get you?

I'm still curious what your point was when you said "RTS already said he walked around his neighborhood with a 22 on his shoulder". The fact that he was FIRST assuming I was a threat AND going for his weapon WITHOUT knowing is VERY disturbing to me. Heck yeah, I took that as, at the very minimum, intimidation. At the maximum, threatening. I didn't stick around to do anymore but apologize to him, which he accepted (I assume he accepted since he just glared at me wordlessly), and I beat a hasty pace up the street and around the corner toward my house.
August 20, 200917 yr I have no idea about the ban....but the guy was real, and the guy had a gun. The cookies...I agree they're awesome. I was being facetious about the ban...sorry should have been more clear!
August 20, 200917 yr If I had been in rockmom's shoes, that situation would have ended very badly for one of us.Unless you were packing, it would have been you. :walk: What are you saying, that you would have hit the guy?

I think it's buried deep down in the 2nd amendment somewhere after the whole "bear arms" stuff.

You think I'M paranoid, and I'm not. It's a complete fabrication, but you insist on it because it makes you feel better. I know a lot of gun owners as well. I'm not anti-gun. No, and anyone who has met my dog will tell you that he owns me because he thinks everyone is out to get him.
