Wireman Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 His chances are probably running pretty low.
Wireman Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Well, I hate to say it, but Woodson is a possible candidate to be cut tomorrow.
Wireman Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Luckily for Andre Woodson, it looks like Rhett Bomar is getting overpaid for this summer job, as well.
dolamite Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I hate this for Andre. It was crazy how midway through the 07' season Mel Kiper and others were talking about him being maybe one of the elite qb's in the draft. Slowly but surely his stock started to fall, and it is still falling. If something doesn't happen soon he could very well stop falling and crash rock bottom, competing for a spot on a UFL team or something. He only has a couple games left to try and get something done, if not then who knows what will happen to him next. Hopefully somebody else would give him a look if he got cut, clearly things aren't going that well in New York.

I think he is safe going against Bomar, but if he continues to play like this, they'll cut them both and find a legit 3rd stringer.

Still yet you have to wonder if it is just the type of offense the Giants run, or something else of that nature that is causing Woodson's troubles. It could just be his game doesn't translate into the pro game, but coming from a pro style offense and being as hyped as he was at one point in time one would think he could turn into a serviceable qb. I hated the pick when the Giants drafted him especially with all the qb's they had. He was soon cut and picked back up to the practice squad. It's tough to get reps in being on the practice squad or being the third stringer, so I'm not sure he will better his game by being in New York. I would like to see him in a place such as San Francisco to see if he could turn into something in a few years.
halfback20 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Well, I hate to say it, but Woodson is a possible candidate to be cut tomorrow. Are you serious? After one preseason game? I seriously doubt that will happen. He's in a battle for a roster spot with Rhett Bomar and David Carr. I've heard nothing but good things about him from the Giants training camp. He didn't do great tonight but I'd be surprised if he is cut with 3 more pre season games left.
MountainThunder Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Woodson was holding the ball too long and you could see O coordinator Kevin Gilbride telling him that after one of his series'. He did make some good throws that the WR made no effort to get to. You can tell that the Giants had to replace their 2 top receivers for this year and their depth isn't what it should be. Eli could have some trouble if their WR's past #3 or #4 have to play any significant minutes. That being said, Woodson still looked slow in his decision making. I didn't see the pick, but heard it was ugly. Bhomar looked like a lost rookie, but that is to be expected. Woodson will need to really get rid of it quicker if he wants to be anything better than the #3 option for an NFL team. But then again, it was just 1 preseason game.

If he can't translate his abilities into the actual games, he'll never make it in the NFL. That being said, the comment that he'll be cut tomorrow was a figure of speech used to illustrate how terribly he played last night. I don't literally think he'll be cut after the first preseason game. I do believe that David Carr is a lock for the #2 spot, however.
Big Slick Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I agree Carr looks like a lock for the #2 spot.
CatsCatsCats Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I think Woodson will be fine. I think it is a confidence thing with him, he plays nothing like the guy I saw in his senior year at UK. He'll be fine. Even if he gets cut, I think he will continue to find work. Actually, if he can find some playing time, the UFL (?) may be a great fit for him to get his mind right. Maybe I'm biased though. Woodson is my favorite Cat of all-time, and yes that includes basketball.
FormerCawoodTrojan Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I was hoping for the best, but he looked really shaky last night. Of course, as I suspected in another thread, the WR group is horrible and didn't help anyone out last night.
