I keep doing the math, and it still shows that Ashland should be very good. But, never underestimate what a good OL can do versus a bad OL. I've said all year, if Ashland finds three good linemen they will be good, maybe they haven't found the right three yet.

 

Believe me Ram…I will NEVER underestimate the value of a solid line. I think this group of Ashland linemen have the talent and strength, but simply haven’t had the opportunity to gain experience….yet.

 

Speaking of linemen, can any GC folks describe what to expect from the Musketeer D-line (and O-line too for that matter)?

After a particularly poignant wake up call last weekend, I can’t imagine any Ashland player taking GC lightly. The Tomcats have had three straight home opening losses to a team which, at least on paper, should not have won the contest. …

 

 

 

 

I hope that the Tomcats are frustrated by their performance Saturday, and they come out Friday with something to prove – ready to take it out on someone.

I think we fans should give the O-line time to gel. But, it looks like they will have to train "on the job" now.

Greenup 15 - Ashland 8 ---> Do not underestimate this group at Greenup. A new coach breeds new attitude. Not saying the prior staff did not know their X's & O's, but I feel, and keep in mind this is my opinion, the old staff did not know how to relate to their students. The players I have talked with all respect Coach C and seem to be willing to play their hearts out. Time will tell. Best of luck to both schools. Go GCHS.

Ram, thanks for the back up but you don't have to fight any battles for me. I tried to get a rise out of our Ashland friends and then someone takes it personal. I apologize for upsetting someone and then I am accused of backing off. Can't win with people with a chip on their shoulder. FWIW, I believe that I have always been a positive poster and I don't believe I cry about officiating. Somebody must just be jealous. I have always been told that is a form of flattery.:idunno:

Went to the GCHS field today to take senior flags to the boys and I could feel the excitement everywhere. There was people in the front field the back field in front of the school it was wonderful. We met the coach and the boys seemed very pleased with their "flags". I believe I even saw Coupon 21 on the field. I know Mr. Mom55 won't be able to be at the Ashland game but I may have to travel to Ashland Friday night. I'm very excited about the team and they seemed very up. Whatever happens Friday night, I think this one has got to be the game of the week in our area. You've got to love all of the subplots that have come to light in this thread:

 

Given the scrimmage debacle at Campbell County, is Ashland just not as good as we thought?

 

Given the new coach at Greenup, have the Musketeers really turned their program around in a matter of months?

 

Will the Tomcats forsake the strength of their team, their two outstanding running backs, and go to the spread offense in a Hal Mumme-like air assault?

 

Will Greenup effectively use their new veer offense to control the ball up to a quarter at a time?

 

Do us Raceland and Russell fans really know very little about area high school football by predicting Ashland will win this game by a comfortable margin?

 

And last but not least, of course, will the referees be seen putting on Tomcat jackets as they exit Putnam Stadium? ;-)

 

I guess we'll learn the answers to these questions on Friday. I wish I could see this one in person, but I'll happily listen to Dicky Martin, the voice of the Tomcats and the best radio announcer in the area IMO, while I watch the Russell game.

Ryan, the officials actually have maroon stripes instead of black while working games at Putnam. I think they get them at the alumni tailgate party prior to the game. lol

Show me in the first post where the apology was. Sure looks like nothing but the backstroke to me. I'm not a bit mad, I just wanted you to be man enough to say what you wanted to say instead of trying to tip toe around in your ballet slippers. I have no idea what I would be jealous about.
