Yes. I think it is just a different brand of football played among the Northern Kentucky teams. It's sort of like when Ashland runs into Highlands at the end of the year. Those teams just have too many athletes.

 

As for our area, though, I still think Ashland is the top team this year, and by a considerable margin over Greenup.

How do you know they are better by a considerable margin? Nobody has saw what GC has this year.

I don't know much about Greenup. What kind of offense does they run? Campbell Co runs a pass oriented offense. As a result, the key to beating Campbell Co is getting pressure on the quarterback and having good coverage on their receivers. In the scrimmage the Campbell QB had time to throw and there were several coverage breakdowns by Ashland resulting in big plays for Campbell Co. Scrimages typcially don't mean much and if Geenup is a run oriented offense, then Ashland's performance in the scrimmage would mean even less than what scrimmages usually mean.

It's really more me thinking that Ashland is very, very good this year. I think they are probably more than a touchdown better than all of the teams in our area this year including Raceland, Russell, and Boyd. There is no doubt that Greenup has a real opportunity to make a statement about their new program this Friday. If they come close to Ashland, then it's clear Greenup is on their way to turning it around. If they beat Ashland, then it's one of the biggest one year turnarounds I've ever seen.

Don't take it personnel, really, like Ryan said, it's not so much people thinking Greenup is bad, as it is we all know what Ashland has returning. Ashland has a lot returning, from a team that was on the up swing at the mid point of last season, they are going to be good, and not many people are going to pick against them versus area teams. Greenup is in the same boat as all the area teams this year, having to play a very good game to beat Ashland.

I didnt mean to sound like I took it personal, but I think you guys from Raceland will agree the first year in a new spread offense is rough. For the coaches as much as the players, it is not an easy transition. I think it will hurt Ashland early in the season. I know GC is the underdog and should be. Just from experience with going to a new offense, Ashland could struggle early, and GC's clock managment will be much better than in previous years. All of this coming into play will make this game closer than some might think.

I also agree that time management will be in favor of GC, but they'll have to score on those sustained drives. Ashland might not win the time clock war, but Carter et al can scoot and can really deflate what took 5 minutes to accomplish in about 10 seconds.

Going to the spread offense is alot more complicated than going to a run-oriented veer system. Trust me I have seen both transitons.

I agree it is easier, but it is still a new system and a new philosophy. As Woody Hayes stated so well many years ago, "3 things can happen you you pass and 2 of 'em ain't good". Many more complications with a long snap and patterns being ran vs direct snap and hand off.

I honestly think this could be a late 4th qtr score to win either way. I guess knowing that you have to be 14 points better than Ashland at home (if you know what I mean) makes me go with the Tomcats.:idunno:
