August 17, 200917 yr A different viewpoint of Woodstock: Myth has it that Woodstock was a mystical and cosmic gathering of the tribes that ushered in the age of Aquarius, and altered the course of history. The facts are: a group of incompetent businessmen put on a concert. They presented the music, but provided hardly any other amenities for the audience. Parking was in the mud three miles from the site. It rained. A lot of kids showed up and got smashed out of their young minds. They didn't riot. They didn't overthrow the government. Hell, they were so stoned they could hardly stand up. All there was to eat was that horrid organic rice the Hog Farmers passed out in Dixie cups. There wasn't one sign in a Port-O-San saying, "Hog Farmers must wash their hands before serving granola," if you smell what I'm cookin'. The only thing that would have made the meal perfect would have been a tall glass filled with ANYTHING TO DRINK! Woodstock wasn't even in Woodstock, it was in Bethel. After the locals realized that The Grateful Dead and Joe Cocker were involved in this "Arts Fair" they figured the whole deal would frighten their cows, corrupt their daughters, and in general, ruin their weekend. So they had a judge issue a court order blocking the entire event. 40 YEARS AFTER . . . THE GREAT WOODSTOCK MYTH Agreed some of the antics at Woodstock stunk but the music was great !

August 17, 200917 yr Author The Woodstock documentary is starting now on Vh1 Classic for anyone interested. Grrr ... I don't have it. I was scanning channels all weekend hoping to find it on somewhere. Too bad the "music" channels are too busy showing "(un)reality shows." :irked:

August 17, 200917 yr Richie Haven was in town a few weeks ago to do a show and he talked a lot about Woodstock and the aftermath... Pretty cool stuff.. I wonder how many times he's done Freedom in the last 40 years??
August 17, 200917 yr Just to be clear, I don't dislike Woodstock, I agree that it was very unique and the music was great. I was merely showing a different point of view that some have.

Stephen Stills: "This is the second time we've played in front of people we're scared ________" One of the all time classic lines of honesty. Still said they were more scared because so many of their peers were in a semi-circle behind them (Jimi Hendrix, the Who, Airplane, et al) watching to see what these four guys (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) would sound like together. Probably because of that appearance, (and the first CSN album just being released), CSNY took off like a rocket and became the poster super group of that time frame. (IMO)
