The Obama Resistance Grows

By Lee Cary

Spontaneous, uncoordinated, passionate -- citizen resistance to Obama socialism grows by the day.

America is no stranger to resistance. The nation was born from citizen resistance that had mixed support among the colonists. About one in five was loyal to the King. Some of the bitterest fighting in the American Revolution was between Loyalists and Patriots. And all of it was between Americans in the Civil War. We know how to resist.

There was a spontaneous resistance after December 7, 1941. It shook America out of its flirtation with isolationism. In that case, it was largely Republican politicians who were slow to see the danger from international tyrants. Edwin Bodley of East Chicago, Indiana was a junior in engineering at Purdue University when he joined the students who, upon hearing the news of Pearl Harbor, spilled out of their dormitories in a spontaneous demonstration of resistance. The next day Edwin enlisted in the Air Force. After flying 56 missions over the "Hump," he volunteered to go back to the war and rescue downed flyers in the Pacific. Lieutenant Bodley died on August 13, 1945, hours before the war ended, the navigator on the last US crew aircraft lost to hostile action in World War II. The resistance never died in him. His name was Legion for there were many like him in those days.

Maybe this is the thread to post this. From Republican David Frum:

What would it mean to “win” the healthcare fight?

For some, the answer is obvious: beat back the president’s proposals, defeat the House bill, stand back and wait for 1994 to repeat itself.

The problem is that if we do that… we’ll still have the present healthcare system. Meaning that we’ll have (1) flat-lining wages, (2) exploding Medicaid and Medicare costs and thus immense pressure for future tax increases, (3) small businesses and self-employed individuals priced out of the insurance market, and (4) a lot of uninsured or underinsured people imposing costs on hospitals and local governments.

We’ll have entrenched and perpetuated some of the most irrational features of a hugely costly and under-performing system, at the expense of entrepreneurs and risk-takers, exactly the people the Republican party exists to champion.

What if We Win

The problems with healthcare that I personally know of at the moment include:

1) A close friend of mine and her husband both lost their jobs back in September and October. They could only find part time jobs without insurance. By Christmas, they couldn't survive without loans from her parents who, too, were strapped for cash. The husband finally was able to get a job driving a semi, though he hadn't done that for about 15 years (he's an IT guy). Health insurance costs for them nearly did them in and they were both healthy...so do you let your coverage go or struggle to pay it?

2) Worse: A friend of mine that I graduated with was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She has two chemo treatments left to go and her insurance company just dropped her...for no reason. Think she's going to find affordable coverage in the middle of cancer????? She's had to resort to having fundraisers to pay her expenses.

These issues need to be addressed somehow...and they are just two situations out of who knows how many.

Or well informed. :D:cool:

My question is, can we as a country afford it right now?

We can't even afford some of the promises already made to the people like Social Security and Medicare. For years, Congress has spent more than it has taken in and Obama wants to expand on it in a mighty way.

Sorry to hear about your friend that is terrible.

I was just talking tonight with a friend of my inlaws. It's scary...I feel for my parents right now. I don't know the answer but at some point I know we have to stop spending so much money we don't have and taking from the hard working people while giving to those that choose not to work. The catch is the people that have lost their jobs and want to work.

I think it has to come from all angles. The drug companies have to pitch in. The insurance people have to pitch in. The judges have to make it cost the people that sue for frivolous lawsuites. Dr's might have to take a little cut. We might have to pay a little more.

I can't say enough you all need to get on visablevote.com You have the chance to scan through things being voted on and keep up with how your representatives vote. It keeps track so you can see how your values match up. It also goes to them before they vote and you can send a letter once a week if you please. The main thing is YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY WITH THE MONEY SPENT ON REDICULOUS THINGS!!!! I'm talking billions on colored roofs for schools to save the environment etc!

Sorry, stick1 not going to happen. We are going to spend ourselves right out of our status in the world and right into a failing country. Cause our leaders don't have enough guts to tell the voters no.

Sorta like the parent who spoils their children by never telling them no. When they get and get and get and get, then when it is all gone, they just throw a big temper tantrum and that is what we have been doing for probably the last 20 years or so.

This country is in serious problems with our spending issues and right now this administration thinks they have an open checkbook. And they will win votes by buying them with spending programs.

And Bush and the Republicans were JUST AS BAD if not worse because they promised us something different in regards to spending when we all knew that this was what the Democrats were going to do.

Inability to afford the $1 billion per month in Iraq for the last six years didn't seem to ruffle many Republican feathers.

You are 100% correct, but that is hardly an argument in favor of even more expanded government spending...

I was not a big fan of going into Iraq. But 12 bil a year is pocket change compared to the trillion we're talking about now.

Agreed. I just think it's disingenuous of people to immediately fly off the handle about excessive government spending that is supposed to help Americans but say nothing for years about the war spending in Iraq that I can't see does anything directly for the average American.

Why should I believe that the same people who fell in without question to the war, when it seemed obvious that a little reading would prove it wrong, are pressing for answers to all of the slightest questions when it comes to health care.

Does that make sense?
