UFC 101 Declaration

I thought it was pretty awesome. Silva is one bad man! Penn came in shape and ready to dominate which he did.

Some rumors going around that next fight will be Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre. Now that would be 2 of the best pound for pound fighters going at it, and I would pay almost anything to see that.

Do you think St. Pierre could hang with Griffin?

Hendo and Franklin are not fighting. Hendo gets Silva next at middleweight for the title and Franklin gets Belfort at UFC 103.

I'm aware of that. But, it's because of fan backlash...that's the fight they were originally going to make.

Hence the post, I can't believe they wanted to do Hendo/Franklin instead.

I don't. Considering his style, the size and strength difference would be a huge problem. The good news is that Forrest isn't a dominant fighter in any area. That might mean GSP could get some opportunities over the course of the fight.

He'd definitely have a better shot against Griffin than he would against Silva.

Forrest ran out of the cage because he was probably afraid Silva would punch him again. Silva beat Griffen so bad it looked like Forrest took a dive. Silva is the baddest man on the planet regardless of class. GSP needs to stay at 170 because he wouldnt last more than 3 rounds with Anderson. Anderson needs to stay at 205 because no one at 185 is going to challenge him.

BJ is the man at 155. I think more of me picking Florian was just me wanting him to win. BJ looked good, looked like he had some muscle and wasnt fat or out of shape. He will clean out that division.

I picked Florian because he's possibly my least favorite fighter in UFC, and I wanted him to not win so bad that I figured he'd almost certainly beat BJ...that's how things often work for me it seems.

Griffin looked so out of his element..He didn't look like he'd ever fought an MMA fight before. He looked terrible. I thought this would be one of those all time great fights. What a let down.

Well, he's not the first fighter that was made to look like an amateur in the cage with Anderson Silva. (See Rich Franklin)

Ace has been almost unbeatable in the UFC and Silva made him look downright awful not once, but twice.

This fight shouldn't hurt Forrest's status at 205 at all, IMO. What happened is pretty much what was expected...this is what the UFC had in mind when they made the fight, IMO. Griffin has the name recognition as a popular fighter from TUF, the prestige as a former 205 pound champion, and the style to put Anderson Silva back on the front page and erase the memory of the last two fights.

Silva's reflexes, timing and precision are absolutely amazing. He doesn't waste energy swinging wildly, he moves and avoids getting hit until he gets the opening and then delivers the TNT on point...he did it three times last night to Forrest and dropped him every time. He did it to Dan Henderson, Marquardt, Chris Leben, etc. It's like watching an artist at work, albeit very violent art. :D

When he caught that kick, I thought Silva was very close to finishing Griffin the same way he did Irvin.

Anderson needs a new nickname like Silky Smooth Silva because he makes it look way too easy every time he fights.

Its amazing to watch. He is just as elusive as Machida and he does it while standing in front of you while Machida does it by backing up. Cant beat him if you cant touch him.

Did anyone think when Silva caught Griffins kick early in the fight that it was going to be James Irvin all over again?

I did. Post 66.

I'd like to see Silva vs. Fedor. I don't know if he'd beat him, but Fedor isn't the huge type of heavyweight, nor is his style such that would make it an impossible matchup.

However, Silva would be a definitive underdog. The size difference, while not Lesnar-esque, is still a huge obstacle. He'd be fighting a bigger guy who is just as dangerous as he is in all facets, and just as composed as he is in all circumstances. I'd love to see it.

Hypothetically, I'd expect to see Fedor take the fight to the mat and finish Silva with some ground-and-pound or a submission. If Silva could keep the fight standing, his odds of winning go way up.

But, pound-for-pound, nobody's above the Spider on my list.

I know it's because of fan backlash. And I know that's the fight they originally wanted. I think I posted it here. I at least remember posting about it before...

That is 2 weight classes difference, so I doubt it. I do think that GSP is one of the top 2 or 3 pound for pound in the world, but I do not think that he could fight a person 2 classes above him.

Nope. I honestly believe Anderson could beat him.

What?! I love Anderson Silva and think he is probably the best fighter in the UFC, but Fedor is just as good and much bigger.

Silva's performance was spectacular. It's incredible to see someone with with that much talent use it so gracefully.

If the two fought each other Fedor wouldnt be much bigger. Anderson would put on weight and be Id say within about 10 pounds or so of Fedor. Fedor is only 230. He moved up for Forrest and I thought Forrest would be decisively bigger but he wasnt. Anderson looked every bit as big as he was.

Fedor would get eaten up on the feet if he tried to strike with Silva. Heck even Arlovski was taking it to him standing until he tried a dumb flying knee.

The ground would be where Fedor may have the advantage. He would have the strength advantage plus he has really good ground n pound and BJJ.

I dont know if I would bet on this fight, but I do know that Id take my money and burn it before I ever bet against Silva.
