I too felt a whole "we're not smart enough to take care of ourselves" theme to this thread.

Name one President, King, Prime Minister, Dictator, or any other type of leader in history that has not had some vice or “skeleton in the closet”? Not Bush, not Clinton, not Kennedy, not even Washington.

This tidy, endearing phrase has been used in recent years to justify the high political aspirations of dim bulbs such as George W. Bush and Sarah Palin, among others from both sides of the aisle, and it makes no sense whatsoever to me.

 

Why do you want someone you feel is "one of us" to represent you? Especially for the highest office in the land? Shouldn't we demand a bit more?

 

I don't know about you, but the idea of a long-haired, bigoted, beer-drinking, NASCAR-loving, porn-viewing, tattooed, quick-tempered, Bible-tossing, reality-TV-watching, American Idol-addicted, coke-sniffing, pill-popping, overweight, underpaid, debt-ridden clown who cheats on his/her significant other regularly while rocking out to AC/DC in the Oval Office is just flat-out frightening. I use those pejorative terms because they cast an umbrella that covers about 95 percent of the US population (if not more).

 

Bottom line: Most Americans are screw-ups, and hopelessly unfit for governance. Why, pray tell, do you want someone like you calling the shots in the Oval Office, with their unsteady, reactionary hand on the big red button?

 

 

Wow I can't figure out how we can get out of bed and go to work in the morning, Americans (at least by your example) seem to be the worst example of the human species. You need to hang out with better people if you think everyone is as you say.

How about the tax cheats Timmy and Charlie? How about the gaffe maker Joe and the guy who has no experience in anything, but organizing people to protest.

I find your description of the American people to be the true liberal elitist belief that the majority of Americans are stupid. While many are ignorant of politics, most are average, hard working Americans. I resent the way you degrade my grandfather who bought a farm in 1932 and eventually owed 300 plus acres and owed a bulldozing company. Or my father who sold farm equipment and was an excellent mechanic and welder. Or my son who is in the military, my daughter who works for a doctor. Or my many friends who are bankers, doctors, construction workers, nurses, ministers and a host of other professions. If tried to stop being an elitist maybe you could see what is out there.

I do agree many Americans do need to be better educated about our government. For example, there is no such thing as a "living document". When a person makes a contract both parties are to live up to that contract. The same holds for the contract made between the States and the Federal that was created by the contract called the Constitution of the United States.

 

They also need to learn there are no rights that says they are owed a living, health or anything else that they need to do for theirselves. They need to learn it is not the place for the Federal Government to run auto companies, banks, or any other business. They need to understand that government does not set the wages of companiy leaders.

 

What understanding that is needed is that government will allow for an equal start for everyone to achieve, with no guarentee of outcome.

 

What you did was trash America. Just like Obama when he goes groveling overseas. More education is needed on our government, but what is being taught in many schools, especially the city schools, is PC politics or nothing.
